To celebrate the release of the album, Animate Times will be delivering interviews with the cast for 12 consecutive days. This is the ninth installment, and this time we have Shun Horie, who sings “Minna Nakayoku!” [Wish Me Meru]. He talked about his memories with Sanrio characters and his thoughts on this project.

–How did you feel when you heard about doing an album of Sanrio character song covers?

Shun Horie (hereinafter, Horie): When I first heard about the role, I was excited to see how I could blend into the world of Sanrio’s adorable characters. On the other hand, I myself thought of myself as a voice actor who was quite far removed from the cute worldview, so I am very happy to have been given this rare opportunity.

–Please tell us about your memories of Sanrio characters.

Horie: When I was a child, I often visited my grandmother’s house, and they had “Kero Kero Keroppi” tableware and cups. When I see “Kero Kero Keroppi”, I remember my memories as an elementary school student, when I would go to my grandmother’s house during summer vacation.

“Kero Kero Keroppi” is subliminally etched into my memory along with my childhood memories, so I think he is the character I’m most familiar with.

–Are there any characters other than your own that you’re interested in?

Horie: It’s not the same as what you’re interested in, but I do have some memories of “Little Twin Stars.” At the time, I was working on a project with Kaito Ishikawa as the double lead, and someone who saw a photo of us together, with Ishikawa’s hair red and mine dyed blue, said to me, “We look like Kiki and Lala!” (laughs).

–What do you think are similar to the characters you play?

Horie: We have in common that our favorite foods are “hotcakes” and “omurice”. When I visit an area I don’t usually go to, I have a cute side to me, who will look up the best “hotcakes” and “omurice” restaurants in the area and go eat there (laughs).
