Voice actor Kokoro Kikuchi has been chosen to play the role of the main character, Maruko. Mr. Kikuchi will appear from the broadcast on April 21, 2024.
Along with the announcement, we have received comments from Mr. Kikuchi and all the production staff.
In addition, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of TV anime broadcasting, the “Entire Season! Momoko Sakura Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Original Work Festival” will be held from April 21st to June 9th! You can enjoy the original masterpiece episodes related to the seasons.
Q. Please tell us how you felt when you decided to play Maruko this time.
When my manager called me and said, It's been decided,'' I was so surprised that after saying Eh,” I can barely remember what I said.
I was happy…my head was filled with complex emotions that I didn’t quite understand: nervousness, relief, and anxiety.
Q. What kind of image do you have of the anime “Chibi Maruko-chan”?
When I turn on the TV at 6pm on a Sunday evening, I’m relieved to see the usual characters there. Even though it’s a story about the ordinary daily lives of third graders, it’s always interesting, and I think it’s a great work that is loved by people of all ages. It’s been over 30 years…
The narration in between and the vertical lines on the faces are familiar now, but when you think about it again, they’re very innovative. Also, when Maru-chan’s clothes change to a “face T-shirt”, I can feel the arrival of summer.
Q. Please tell us your aspirations for the future.
My favorite “Chibi Maruko-chan” has been watching every week since it started airing. Six years ago, I was invited to the “Maruko” site once. All the cast and staff were cheerful and having fun at the recording, and TARAKO was at the center of that cheerfulness.
When I asked him to say hello, he greeted me with a smile, laughed at my co-star’s ad-libs, and was smiling happily throughout the recording. From that day on, I fell in love with “Chibi Maruko-chan” even more. TARAKO has continued to play the role of “Maruko” with great care. Honestly, I’m a little scared, but I’ll try my best to cherish this feeling that I love Chibi Maruko-chan.
I don’t think I’ll be used to hearing it for a while, but I’d be very reassuring if you could keep an eye on it over the long term. Thank you.
Maruko is carefree and lazy, but she cares about her friends and loves her family. I wanted to find someone who could play such a richly expressive and innocent character, so I held auditions as much as time allowed, and was able to meet Kokoro Kikuchi.
All the staff are confident that they are the perfect person to play the role of Maruko. While valuing the image of “Maruko” that TARAKO, who played the role of Maruko for over 30 years, has nurtured, we will continue to deliver a fun and entertaining “Chibi Maruko-chan” together with Mr. Kikuchi.

When professional baseball starts, my father, Hiroshi, is excited. On the other hand, Maruko and Tomozo are not amused because the TV channel is changed to baseball.
He plays with Tomozo in order to get him to give up the channel, but Hiroshi, who is obsessed with baseball, is unable to take him on.
The season for home visits has arrived. The house is tidy and everything is ready for the home visit.

At first, Maruko accompanies Maruko’s chats, but when she is told to come back later because she has to watch her older sister study, Suneta Maruko ends up acting coldly towards her older brother, who is her tutor.

海？レストランで美味しいご飯？目的地を決めずに走り出したドライブ。さて、その行く先は…？
ある暑い一日。クーラーのないさくら家、まる子は暑くて宿題が出来ないからクーラーが欲しいとお母さんに言ってみるが、あえなく却下される。
クーラーのある花輪くんちに行こうと電話をしてみるが、花輪くんは出かけていて留守であった。お金持ちになってクーラーを買う夢をおじいちゃんと一緒に語ってみるが、むなしいばかり。
そんな時、まる子とお姉ちゃんは、お父さんが連れて帰ってきたカブトムシのことで言い争いになり…
去年まる子がもらってきたすず虫が爆発的に増えてしまったさくら家。どこに行ってもすず虫が鳴いていてうるさい。
あまりのうるささにお姉ちゃんから子供部屋のすず虫を何とかしてと言われ、おじいちゃんの部屋で飼ってもらうことにする。
しかしその晩、友蔵が悪夢にうなされてしまい、またもや引き取ることに。もはや、さくら家にすず虫を置いておける場所はなかった。
まる子の寝起きの悪さはお母さんを困らせ、何度言われても起きられない。
ついに遅刻までしてしまった日、新しい年に向けての目標を決める際、まる子は「早起きをする」を目標とし、そのための目覚まし時計を買おうと決意。まる子の朝に変化は訪れるのか…？
さくら家の今夜の夕食はフグ鍋。たまちゃんにうらやましがられるまる子だったが、闇鍋しか思い浮かばないまる子にとってはフグ鍋もピンとこない。しかも藤木と永沢からフグの毒で死んだ人の話を聞き、真っ青。
家に帰ってお母さんに鍋を中止にしようと真剣に訴えるが聞いてもらえない。まる子の訴えもむなしく、家族が楽しみにしているフグ鍋の夕食が始まった。おじいちゃんがフグを食べようとすると…。
寒くてコタツから出たくないまる子。たまちゃんが遊びに来ても、絶対コタツから出ようとしない。
おフロに入りなさいとお母さんに怒鳴られ、やっとコタツから出るが、おフロから出るとまたコタツの中。
でもおフロから出てすぐに布団に入らなかったため、当然布団の中は冷たくて…。
