To commemorate the release of the movie “Given: To the Sea,” Animate Times conducted a series of interviews with the main cast members while counting down to the release date.
There are only 5 days left until the movie is released. In the third installment of this series, we bring you an interview with Fumiya Imai, who plays Hiiragi Kashima. We asked him about his thoughts on the entire movie and his first impression when he heard the song “syh” in the movie.
–The movie “Given: To the Sea” will be released, but what do you think looking back on the story of “Given: Hiiragi Mix,” the first part of the two-part movie series?
Imai Fumiya, voice of Kashima Hiiragi (hereinafter referred to as Imai): For now, I’m relieved that we were able to deliver it to everyone safely.
There was a lot of pressure because it’s a work I’m very attached to, but I hope that everyone who watches it will enjoy the world of Given and that it will remain in their memories for a long time to come.
–How did you approach the acting in “Given the Movie: To the Sea”? Given the changes in the relationship between Hiiragi and Yagi Gensumi, were there any differences in your approach compared to “Hiiragi Mix”?
Imai: I don’t particularly change my approach for each work, but although Hiiragi’s character is lively, he also has a “balancer” side, so I was conscious of what role he was expected to play in each scene. It’s a fun character to play, with a lot of push and pull.
–There was a singing scene in the first part as well, but what was your first impression when you heard the song “syh” in this film, and what was your impression when you actually tried singing it?
Imai: When I first heard it, I was like, “Huh? Ah, ahhhh!” (laughs)
It’s hard to put into words, so I hope you’ll listen to it and treasure your first impression.
–The anime began airing in 2019, and the story up to the final volume of the original manga has been developed in TV anime, OAD, and movies. Please tell us what you felt while playing Hiiragi, such as his growth, changes, and personality, through the story from beginning to end.
