It has been decided that the TV anime version of this work will be broadcast on NHK General TV (every Saturday at 11:45 pm) starting in October 2024!
Additionally, the teaser PV, visuals, and scene cuts have been released, along with the main cast, including Maaya Sakamoto as the prodigy Rafał, Kenjiro Tsuda as the judge Novak, and Shou Hayami as the mysterious scholar Hubert. Comments from the original author, Toyo Uo, have also been released.
The teaser PV that has just been released begins with a monologue by the prodigy Rafael, who says, “The world is full of idiots,” and ends with him saying, “Now I’m going to move the Earth.”
In an era when the geocentric theory, which states that the Earth is the center of the universe and the planets revolve around it, was considered the truth of the world, and believing or researching anything that contradicted this theory was a serious crime, Rafal learned of the possibility of the heliocentric theory through the words of the mysterious scholar Hubert. He was called a genius by those around him and considered himself a genius, and an intense intellectual curiosity was born in him. “What on earth do I have to sacrifice to know everything about this world?” he asked, and what fate awaited Rafal as he risked his own “knowledge,” “blood,” and even his life to prove the heliocentric theory?

In addition, 10 still cuts have been released, including Rafal gazing at the beautiful night sky, Inquisitor Novak’s fearless smile emerging from the darkness, and Hubert with a strong conviction in his eyes!
A genius boy who skipped grades and entered university at the age of 12.
Although he had always made good use of rational judgments to navigate the world, he became fascinated by the beauty of the heliocentric theory and began to research it.
Inquisitor.
He doesn’t have any particular ideology, but in order to protect peace in the world, including his daughter, he considers any cruelty to be part of his job.
He was an acquaintance of Rafal’s father-in-law Potocki, and a heretic who was imprisoned for “forbidden research.”
–What were your thoughts when you heard about the anime adaptation?
I was simply very happy.
Having it made into an anime was just a dream, but when I heard about the production company that was decided upon, as well as the other staff, cast, broadcasting station, music, etc., everything was so favorable that I began to wonder, “Is this for real?” It still feels like a dream, and it doesn’t feel real.
Also, Madhouse was located near my friend’s house, which I used to visit every week when I was a student, so whenever I hear about anime, I’m reminded of my student days and it brings up a lot of emotions.
What do you expect from the anime?
For better or worse, manga has a strong element of individual work, and you can make a lot of things your own, so for that very reason, when it is transferred to another medium, I hope for that feeling that it no longer belongs to me.
I feel like I’m being looked at as something separate and unrelated to my life, and that makes me very happy.
–A message to your fans?
It’s been two years since the original manga ended, but the production team has given it a fresh new life, and as a viewer just like you, I’m really looking forward to the anime version of “Chi.” It’s sure to be interesting!
–What were your thoughts when you read the original story and script?
I was originally a big fan of the original work and was deeply moved by it. When I received the invitation to audition, I was happy and excited, and shocked to find out that I was going to play the role of Rafal! I was nervous because I knew it would be a difficult role.
–About the character you played, Rafal
He is a character who plays an important role and is the starting point of this epic story.
In the beginning, I focused on making the character relatable, so that the viewers could experience the conflicts and desires that arise within him and share his thirst for knowledge.
–A message to your fans?
Some people may be surprised to see a woman playing the role of Rafal. But since I auditioned and was selected, I felt a sense of mission as a fan of the original work to do a job that would make people think, “This is the real Rafal.” I believe that people will be able to enjoy the role without feeling any sense of incongruity.
–What were your thoughts when you read the original story and script?
A powerful drama about the protagonists who risk their lives to challenge the heliocentric theory and the people on the side of the establishment who oppress them. I was moved. To the point where looking up at the night sky felt like a sacred act. And the depth of the title.
-About the character you played, Novak
He’s a truly fascinating villain. He’s a cold-hearted agent of justice in this world, and a doting family man. Although he carries out his duties with a strong will, he also has a fragile personality, being at the mercy of fundamental questions and changes to the world’s common sense, which makes him a joy to play.
–A message to your fans?
It’s entertainment packed with various elements, such as the strength to risk one’s life to stick to what one believes in, a powerful human drama, and a theme that is not easy to grasp. Please check it out.
