“Transformers: One” is the latest installment in the “Transformers” series, which has had seven live-action films that have been huge hits around the world. Set on the planet Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers, the film tells the story of the origin of transformation and the time when Optimus and Megatron, the hero and villain representing the series, were best friends, and the story of how it all began.
In the English version, the voice of young Optimus Prime will be provided by Chris Hemsworth, who is still fresh in our memory for his brilliant performances in the “Thor” and “Avengers” series, as well as the latest film, “Mad Max: Furiosa.”
Additionally, Brian Tyree Henry from “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire” will play Megatron, and Scarlett Johansson from the “Avengers” series and “Black Widow” will play Elita-1. The film will be directed by Josh Cooley, director of the blockbuster series “Toy Story 4,” and will tell the emotional story of the young Transformers.
The Japanese voice cast for this film was announced in a special information release broadcast on YouTube on July 16th. This film depicts the friendship and conflict between Optimus Prime (Orion Pax) and Megatron (D-16) in their younger years, who work as labor robots without the ability to transform in a city that spreads underground on the planet Cybertron. For this
reason, the voices of the new voice cast, who are strong and fresh, will breathe life into the characters, who are full of youth and hope, unlike the previous series, and who are the history of Transformers itself.
The strongest Transformer, Optimus (Orion Pax), is played by Yuichi Nakamura, and the other strongest Transformer, Megatron (D-16), who is driven by his strong beliefs and his own sense of justice, is played by Subaru Kimura. The two, who are bound by a strong friendship but are destined to become the worst enemies, are heated up with one of the most emotional developments in the series’ history.
During the special, Nakamura commented on Kimura’s Megatron, “It’s an interesting performance that shows how a character with earthy, human feelings changes into evil. Pay particular attention to Subaru’s performance and the drop in the final part.” On the other hand, Kimura said about Nakamura’s Optimus, “When I first heard his voice, I thought, ‘He’s so cool…’ I hope everyone will pay attention to how Nakamura’s Optimus grows to the point where he is almost a different person between the start and the end of the story, and how he becomes an increasingly reliable hero.”
In addition, Ryohei Kimura, who has become a familiar face in the series, will play Bumblebee (B-127), who will accompany them. He will deliver Bumblebee’s slightly off-kilter machine gun talk in a comical way. And Tessho Genda, who has voiced Optimus for about 40 years and has been a driving force in the Transformers series, will play Alpha Trion, who will unleash their “hidden power” – their transformation ability. The unveiled trailer also gives a glimpse of the developments that fans will be drooling over, and we can’t wait to see it on the big screen in the theater.
The latest film in the Transformers series, Transformers: One, will be released in Japan and the US on September 20th. Other voice cast members, including the other main character, Elita-1, will be announced at a later date. Be sure to check out the Japanese dubbed trailer in detail and look forward to further news.
I never thought I would get to play the young Optimus Prime.
How could I become the voice of Tessho Genda? (laughs) I was surprised, but when I read the script I was given, I understood because I start out still inexperienced, young and immature. He has a playful air about him, and the way he grows and changes in the film, including his relationship with Megatron, is depicted very carefully, and the drama with its many other unique characters really draws you in. The action is light and powerful. The visuals and sound are best on a powerful movie theater screen. I want you to immerse yourself in this world.
–Kimura’s performance of Megatron
is fascinating, as it portrays a character with down-to-earth, human feelings who turns evil. Pay particular attention to Subaru’s performance and the drop in the final scene.
When I heard about the new work, I heard that I would be playing the role of Megatron, who has appeared in the Transformers series for a long time, and I wondered what it meant. … (laughs) I
already had a lot of images, so at first I was unsure about how to create the role, but when I heard that it would depict the time when Optimus Prime and Megatron were still nobody, as a Transformers fan, I thought, “I want to see it!” I remember being very excited while acting as the episode was carefully depicted this time, as to why he changed into the Megatron we all know now, beyond his friendship with Optimus.
After all, I like this series because the coolness of the visual gimmick when transforming is wonderful, but this time (he has just acquired the ability to transform) I was very excited by the fact that he is not yet good at it and is not smooth. This is the story of the origin of the Transformers series, so it is good for fans as well as those who are watching for the first time.
–When I first heard Nakamura Optimus’
voice, I thought, “That’s cool.” At the start and end of the story, he has grown to the point where he is almost a different person, and I want everyone to pay attention to how Nakamura’s Optimus becomes a more and more reliable hero.
I have been involved with the Transformers series for a long time, and I was very excited to hear that “Transformers: One” would be made, which depicts the encounter between Optimus and Megatron, and when I actually watched the movie, it was really interesting. The friendship between Optimus and Megatron is amazing as a buddy film. If you watch it, it will be exciting for men, and if you watch it, it will be a hot development that will make you swoon. We
had various discussions with the movie company, and everyone was convinced that the combination of Nakamura and Kimura, these two, would be able to play Optimus and Megatron well in the future. There seem to be many fans who think that I will be in charge of it, but I am doing it seriously. It is not a lawless zone for voice actors. (Laughs) I can’t say more about the people who appear in Beast for a little while! The sound is also really amazing, and you can’t feel the power of the (images and) sound 100% unless you watch it in the theater, so please go see it in the theater.
