Furthermore, actress Mirai Shida made a surprise appearance in the final episode of the seventh season, marking her first appearance in My Hero Academia since the first movie.

In the seventh season of My Hero Academia, the final battle between heroes and villains unfolds. In addition to the fierce battles between powerful “quirks” clashing with each other, the showdown between Deku and Shigaraki Tomura, who is pushing for the destruction of everything, the resolution of the past feud between Todoroki Shoto and his villain brother Dabi, aka Touya Todoroki, and the Todoroki family, and the true encounter between the two girls, Ochaco Uraraka and Himiko Toga, are also packed into the story, which has caused a huge stir.
The final episode of the seventh season featured a battle between the Demon King All For One, who had regained his former strength by rejuvenating himself through “rewinding,” and “Armored All Might,” a “quirkless” man wearing a powered suit!
All Might fights with a suit and support items equipped with the abilities of the “quirks” of Class 1-A. However, he is hurt by All For One’s mighty power… Still, he stands up and shouts to Deku, “Let’s win!”, and the 7th season ends with All Might.
And then the eighth season, “My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON” was announced!
The final chapter of the TV anime begins with the story from volume 40 of the manga and moves towards the conclusion of the battles between Deku and Shigaraki, and All Might and All For One.
The announcement video features Deku’s line, “This is the story of how we became the greatest heroes,” along with a FINAL SEASON teaser visual drawn by character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi and produced by Bones.
Will the story end as Deku says, or is there a different meaning behind his words, or…?
Further information on when it will be broadcast in 2025 will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the announcement of the FINAL SEASON, there was also a surprise in the main story of the 21st and final episode (No. 159) of the 7th season, “A Battle Without Quirks,” which aired today!
“Elcules” is a powered suit and support item that All Might wears to fight All For One. Actress Shida Mirai voices Elcules, All Might ‘s partner who carries out All Might’s orders and instantly activates his onboard weapons!
Hercules is an original character that appeared in the first film, My Hero Academia: The Movie: Two Heroes, which was released in 2018, and was developed by Melissa, a scientist girl played by Shida.
While the production team was discussing the casting of Elcules, the original author, Kohei Horikoshi, suggested, “Since it’s the AI of the machine created by Melissa, why not ask Mirai Shida?”, and this is her first appearance in My Hero Academia in six years!
And then there was Shida Mirai, who recorded the role of Hercules. Here’s an interview that was conducted on-site right after the recording!
–How did you feel when you received the offer to appear in My Hero Academia again after the first movie, “Two Heroes,” in 2018?
Shida: “First of all, I was really happy. I’ve been watching the anime for a long time, and I’ve read the original comics. I knew that Melissa was in the original, so I was hoping that maybe… but I never expected it to happen in this way.”
— I heard that Kohei Horikoshi himself suggested, “Since Melissa created Hercules, it would be best to ask Shida-san to do it.” What do you think about that?
Shida: “I’m very honored, but I never expected it to happen at such a final stage… We’re getting into such an important story, the battle between All Might and All For One… I also felt a lot of pressure, wondering if I was really the right person for the role.
Of course, there was pressure during the movie version, but since this is the final battle of My Hero Academia, which has a long history, I felt that I had to live up to the expectations even more.”
–As someone who has been following the anime series for a long time, how do you feel about this seventh season?
Shida: “As a fan, I can’t help but feel like a parent, thinking how much everyone has grown. Also, I like Gentle and La Brava, so I got teary-eyed when I saw them appear in the final battle in the original work. And they appear as allies of Deku and the others. I really felt Horikoshi-sensei’s love for the characters.
So I couldn’t help but look forward to seeing these two in the anime. Of course, there are many scenes that I was moved by when reading the original manga, and that I felt a strong attachment to, but seeing the animated version made me feel like they were really alive, and I really enjoyed it.
–And now it’s time for today’s recording. What kind of preparations have you made?
Shida: “After I received the offer, I practiced so much that I’m embarrassed to even mention it (laughs). In order to be able to handle any kind of direction on set, I practiced by trial and error, trying out all kinds of different patterns, from a very AI-like way of speaking to sounds like Melissa speaking directly.”
──こう演じよう、ではなく、引き出しをたくさん用意されてきたわけですね。
志田：「おこがましいですが…。現場でパニックにならないように、と思って。」
──そして本番を迎えました。いかがでしたか？
志田：「昨日は全然寝れませんでした(苦笑)。『2人の英雄(ヒーロー)』を繰り返し見て、実は収録が始まる直前のついさっきまで見ていました。メリッサの声やお芝居はどんなだったかを思い出したりもして。いろいろ練習しましたが、今日の演出にあった「AIでありながらオールマイトに寄り添うような声」というパターンは練習してはいなかったんです。
ただ、(音響監督の)三間さんや中山監督のセリフひとつひとつへの指導も的確でわかりやすく、それが映画やドラマの演技に通じるところもあって、私なりに頑張って演じさせていただきました。
あと、(すでに収録済だった)オールマイトの声も聞こえたので、一緒に戦っているんだ、オールマイトをサポートしているんだ、という気持ちにもなれましたし、TVアニメの“ヒロアカの世界”に入れたというのもすごく嬉しかったですね。」
──最後にヒロアカ7期を、「“個性”無き戦い」をご覧になったファン・視聴者の皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。
志田：「私もいちファンとしてすごく楽しみにしていた最終決戦に、まさか私自身が出演させていただけるとは思っていませんでした。FINAL SEASONも発表され、私が言うのもおこがましいのですが、放送を、一緒に楽しみに待っていただけるとありがたいです。」
