Animate Times is currently bringing you interviews with the two PreCure singers who sing each song. This time, we have Ami Ishii and Rie Kitagawa.
Ishii sang a duet with Machico in the movie “Pretty Cure All Stars F” released last year. Meanwhile, Kitagawa also sang a duet with Machico in “My Own Okosama Lunch,” which was shown at the same time as “Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure Dreaming♡Okosama Lunch!” The two have also collaborated with various other Pretty Cure singers outside of the movies. We asked them about their thoughts on this duet and the secret behind their refreshing singing voices in “Daisuki no Kizuna.”
— “The Bonds I Love” was refreshing and cool.
Rie Kitagawa (hereinafter, Kitagawa): Thank you!
Ami Ishii (hereinafter, Ishii): It’s cool, isn’t it?
–I had the opportunity to interview Utomoto-san and Yoshitake-san yesterday. Regarding “Susuki no Kizuna,” Utomoto-san said that the two voices were “handsome.” Yoshitake-san said, “I feel like Ami-chan’s singing voice is close to Rie-san’s, so cool! Handsome! (laughs).”
Ishii: Handsome! (laughs) I’m happy. It’s all thanks to Rie that I was able to produce a voice that made the two of them think so. That’s because I had the opportunity to observe Rie’s recording this time.
Kitagawa: We were recording on the same day. I was first, and Ami was later. She contacted me the day before and asked if I could come and watch, and I said, “Sure, but I’m sure I’ll be totally exhausted.”
— In tatters? Rie, are you referring to that?
Kitagawa: I wasn’t confident in my voice. I was practicing at home and it was quite difficult to find a way to make it sound right. So I contacted Ami and said, “Please enjoy watching me suffer.”
Ishii: I thought, “That can’t be true! It’s a lie!”
Kitagawa: But in the end, I struggled quite a bit (bitter laugh). I went through a lot of trial and error to find the right singing style for this song.
The lyrics had a gentle atmosphere, so I thought it was a song that could be interpreted in many different ways. So at first I tried singing it in a variety of vocal tones. I tried singing it in a really cool way, or with a lot of cute elements.
First, I sang it in various voices, but somehow it didn’t feel right. Then, I heard that this song is used in the “rushing scene” in the movie, and while imagining that scene, I recorded it thinking, “Is this the right place?”, “Is this the right place?”, “It’s here!”
–It’s like craftsmanship. The recording is like threading a needle.
Kitagawa: …Ami-chan saw all of that! (laughs)
Ishii: Yes (laughs). But I thought all of Rie’s songs were “cool!” and “all good!” But as she sang, her voice, which had the gentleness of rushing to the scene, but also the refreshing feeling of piercing through, fit perfectly. When I saw that, I thought “This is it!”
–So that’s how you tune it.
Ishii: I thought so! I had never done that kind of recording before, so I was amazed at how much of a singing voice Rie has. And the way he brought out Rie’s voice, which she has many voices in, and matched it with her voice by asking “Is it like this?” was so cool, I thought “She’s a pro among pros.”
北川：あなたもプロよ（笑）。
石井：すっごく良い経験をさせてもらいましたし、勉強になりました。
北川：でも最終的に自分で納得のいく形になって、あみちゃんにバトンを渡して。私もあみちゃんが歌う姿を見ていたんですよ。「すんなり、軽々歌うなぁ〜！」って。すごいなって思いました。
石井：いやいやいや……！
北川：私が歌う姿を見てくれていたこともあって「ここだな！」という、照準の合わせ方が的確だったんですよ。「わかりました、ここですね！ スットーン！」って感じ。しかもあみちゃんは、高い音から低い音まで均等に出せるんですね。私はそれが本当にすごいことだと思っているんです。それって本当に技術の賜物で。
私の場合は高い音のほうがパーン！と出てしまって、低い音はくぐもってしまうこともあるんです。でもそういうのが一切なくて、全部が前に出ていて、引っ込むことがない。もう北川はそれを聴きながら「全部出てるな、すごいな！」「髪の毛のツヤがすごいな！」ってずっと言ってて……。
石井：その写真を撮って見せてくれて（笑）。
北川：「すごいよ、天使の輪がずっと出てるよ！」って。
――唐突に髪の毛の話題を（笑）。その一言で現場の空気が和んだんだろうなって今思いました。
北川：本人はナーバスになってたんです。緊張していたみたいで。
石井：そうなんです。緊張していて「一回休憩しようか」という話になって、理恵さんのもとに行ったんです。「やばいやばい、どうしよう」ってなってたんですけど、理恵さんが「そんなことより、髪の艶がすごいよ！」って。
北川：「そんなこと」（笑）。
石井：思わず笑ってしまって、理恵さんのおかげで緊張がほぐれたんです。先ほどおっしゃってくれた、音が均等に出せている……って話も、理恵さんが導いてくださったんですよね。理恵さんからの言葉をもらえたから、自然と声を出すことができて、自分自身でも驚いたんですよ。こんなにも心のままに歌えたのは、初めてかもしれないって思うくらいで。そこで理恵さんのすごさも改めて感じました。
千颯ちゃんが「理恵さんに寄っている気がする」というのも、まさに理恵さんの影響があったからだと思います。
北川：同じ日にレコーディングで良かったなって。誰かと一緒に歌う場合は、どうしても別の日になってしまうこともあるんですけど、まったく同じ日に、連続で歌うことができたので、意思疎通を図ることができました。それはすごく大きかったと思いますね。
石井：ですね。全部見ているからこそ、歌に込めた想いも伝わってくるというか。それを知られた上で歌えたということは、本当に大きかったと思います。
――石井さんは北川さんのレコーディングを見るのは初めてだったんですか？
石井：「ひろがるスカイ！プリキュア ～Hero Girls～」のコーラスのレコーディングの時に一度見学させていただいていたんです（コーラスには北川さんとMachicoさんが参加）。コーラスだから歌われていたパートは短かったんですけど、でも「ああ、本物！」って。
北川：あはははは！ どうも、北川だよ！
石井：「ひろがるスカイ！プリキュア～Hero Girls～」のコーラスってめちゃくちゃ高いんですよ。でも軽々と超えて歌われていて「ああ、すごい！」って。その印象が強かったんですよね。それで今回はメインパートを歌っている姿を見させてもらうことができて、再び「本物だ！」って思いました。密度がすごいんですよ。
北川：密度？
石井：声に込められている感情の部分が、ずっとまっすぐじゃないんです。すごく細かく振れていて、声の情報量がとにかく凄いんです。だからこそ、音を聴くといろいろな感情が伝わってくるし「カッコいい〜！」って。
北川：あとで美味しいものを買ってあげるね（笑）。
