Appearing at the event were Shion Wakayama, who plays Momo, Natsuki Hanae, who plays Okarun, Mayumi Tanaka, who plays Turbo Granny, and Kazuya Nakai, who plays the Serpo alien.
The TV anime “Dandadan,” which will begin broadcasting nationwide on the “Super Animeism TURBO” slot on 28 MBS/TBS affiliates from October 3rd, had an advance screening in Osaka on the 21st, with Wakayama Shion (voice of Momo), Hanae Natsuki (voice of Okarun), Tanaka Mayumi (voice of Turbo Granny), and Nakai Kazuya (voice of the Serpo alien) taking to the stage.
This was the first time the four had appeared on stage since last year’s Jump Festa 2024, and as the stage greeting began, the excitement gradually rose among the four. Tanaka took over from Nakai and began talking about the difficulties and things he had to be conscious of when playing the role of the “Selpo Alien,” and then Nakai took over from Tanaka to talk about “Turbo Granny,” creating a chaotic situation. The witty exchange between the two veterans resulted in laughter from Wakayama and Hanae, as well as from the fans gathered at the venue, making for a hilarious stage greeting.
“Dandadan” is a popular manga by Ryu Yukinobu that is currently being serialized (updated every Tuesday) on Shueisha’s manga magazine app “Shonen Jump+,” with a total circulation of 3.2 million copies and over 440 million views.
Momo (Ayase Momo), a high school girl born into a family of spiritualists, and her classmate Okarun (Takakura Ken), an occult fanatic. The two started talking after Momo saved Okarun from a bully in their class, but they got into an argument because Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, while Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. In order to make the other person believe in aliens and ghosts, Momo goes to the ruins of a hospital that is a UFO spot, and Okarun goes to a haunted tunnel. There, the two encounter an overwhelming strangeness that is beyond comprehension. In a desperate situation, Momo awakens her hidden powers, and Okarun, who has the power of a curse, challenges the approaching strangeness! A fateful love story begins! An occult battle and coming-of-age story.
The greeting began with a big smile from Wakayama, who said, “I’m so excited that everyone will finally be able to see it.” Hanae said, “I came to Osaka thinking that my ‘penis’ might be in this venue (laughs),” and said he had come to look for something that Okarun, the character he plays, had “lost.” Tanaka was in full throttle from the start, delivering the famous Turbo Granny line, “Let me suck your penis,” and Nakai, who was his “senior,” added, “I’m here to take care of him,” and the two of them engaged in a friendly dialogue drama with just “greetings.”
When asked about the appeal of “Dandadan,” Wakayama said enthusiastically, “It has a fast-paced story development and incorporates various genres, but it’s very easy to watch. That’s what I love about it.” Hanae said, “When I first heard about ‘Dandadan,’ I wondered what kind of work it was, and started reading the manga… What kind of work is it? (laughs) It has a lot of different elements, and the power of the pictures and the action are amazing, but I like the romantic comedy aspect. Then the occult and horror elements were added, and I enjoyed reading it.” He said that he was initially attracted by the “mystery” in the title. When Hanae asked, “What about Mayumi?” Tanaka replied, “You’re absolutely right, just like you (Hanae).” Nakai repeated Tanaka’s words, “You’re absolutely right, just like you (Tanaka).”
From this point on, glimpses of chaos gradually begin to emerge, and when Tanaka was supposed to be asked about the difficulties she faced in playing Turbo Granny, for some reason she began to speak, “I’ll take Nakai’s place here…” and continued, “The difficult thing about playing the Serpo alien was that all the aliens have the same face, and I had to do them all myself.They’re all slightly different in terms of personalities, and I had to do them all without recording them separately.” “That was me,” “I think that was the difficult part and the thing I worked hard on,” “I was the one who struggled, and I worked hard,” and a lively exchange unfolded between Tanaka and Nakai.
花江もそれに乗っかり、「3人いるセルポ星人の中で特にこだわったのは？」と田中に質問を投げかける始末に「花江くんもおかしいだろ」とツッコむ。しまいには「（セルポ星人は）いかがでしたか？みなさん」と田中が、会場のファンに問うと会場からは割れんばかりの拍手が。「まるごとおかしいな」とツッコミに大忙しの中井は、「“僕”が苦労した点は、新しい今までにない役柄だったので、僕もなにぶん男なので、おばあさんの役ってどう演じていいのかわからなくて…しかもただのおばあさんではないので」と、ナチュラルに反撃を始める中井。会場からも、そして若山や花江からも笑いが止まらずカオスな無法地帯化となりました。
無法地帯に終止符を打つべく、最後にTVアニメ『ダンダダン』の放送に向けたメッセージを問われた若山。「原作の『ダンダダン』をアニメ化にするあたって、（原作と）同じ体験を得られるように、その点に忠実であるように、山代（風我）監督は意識して作られていることが見ていただければわかると思っています。10月からの放送も毎週見ていただければ嬉しいなと思います。『ダンダダン』の輪を広げられたら」とアピール。大きな拍手を持って、舞台挨拶の幕を閉じました。
