FELIP, an artist leading the Philippine music scene, has come to Japan! After his first live performance in Japan, his love for manga and anime explodes as he goes on a shopping spree! [Store Exclusive! Pocket Money Animate]Animate is a shop with a catchphrase “When it comes to anime, it’s Animate” that stocks a wide range of entertainment goods, including manga and anime, all across the country.

We have many anime fans of all genders and ages visiting, but we also have a lot of student customers, some of whom are visiting during their free time on school trips!

Do you have fond memories of visiting Animate with the pocket money you worked hard to save up and buying your favorite character goods, books, games, etc.?

The editorial team wanted students to remember those feelings and early passions for anime and entertainment back then, and wanted them to empathize with the idea… so they came up with “Exclusive Store Rental! Pocket Money Animate”!

In this project, we will invite famous people to Animate Ikebukuro Main Store and have them freely purchase various goods for 5,000 yen, which is said to be the average pocket money for a high school student, and then report on what happens.

You might feel something when you see the guests’ passionate love for the content and how they choose the items they want while struggling with the budget limit!

Our sixth guest is FELIP, a member of the Philippine pop group SB19, who is a leader in the Philippine music scene as a solo artist, dancer, and producer!

FELIP is an artist who has been a hot topic in Japan since his first solo concert in Shibuya on September 2nd was a great success. This time, FELIP, who has just finished his first concert in Japan, visited Animate Ikebukuro main store for the first time.

The reason why we were able to ask such a person to participate in this project is that…FELIP is an admitted manga and anime fan!

In addition to being a hobby, FELIP says that Japanese anime and manga have had a major influence on his artistic activities and his life.

FELIP is particularly fond of the main character of one work, and even takes inspiration from his hairstyle, shoes, and lifestyle.

Not showing signs of fatigue from the live performance, he strolled around the store thoroughly. It’s hard to get hold of goods and books in the Philippines, so he ended up going on a shopping spree!

◆Fancy knowing the things that FELIP, the talented Filipino artist, bought at Animate?【Pocket Money Shopping Spree with Animate】

FELIP (also known as Ken) is a Filipino vocalist, dancer, producer, entrepreneur, and songwriter. He gained fame as a vocalist and dancer for the globally recognized P-POP group SB19, and will make his long-awaited solo debut at the end of 2021. (Quoted from the official website)

His first solo album, “7 SINS,” is now on sale from August 21, 2024!

FELIP-san was excited to visit Animate Ikebukuro main store, which has a Guinness-class sales floor area. We could tell right away that he was really looking forward to his visit, which made us very happy.

We immediately headed to the manga floor on the second floor, which was FELIP’s main focus, to look around, mainly at the boys’ manga.

While picking up comics from enduring global popularity such as “WIND BREAKER,” “Haikyu!!,” and “Attack on Titan,” he rapidly talked about his favorite characters and stories.

The planning staff stop by the bilingual corner, but due to recent inbound demand, many items are out of stock, much to FELIP’s disappointment.

Even now, when online shopping has become mainstream, it is still quite difficult to obtain translated manga, so he gets them through a staff member who comes to Japan. “I’ll buy a lot next time I come!” he cheerfully encouraged us…

(Arrived on Shueisha’s shelves)

FELIP: It’s a little disappointing that there aren’t any bilingual versions, but since I’ve come all this way I think I’ll buy some comics of my favorite works as souvenirs or as my loot for the day!

–I’m sorry…

FELIP: I’m just happy to be here, so it’s fine! Plus, the manga has a cool cover, so it’s worth buying.

I’m thinking of buying this Jujutsu Kaisen comic because Choso is on the cover. Choso is my favorite character in Jujutsu Kaisen!

–That’s cool! Why Choso?

FELIP: I think it’s the fact that he dotes on his brothers like Itadori and his friends. It’s cool to fight for your family, and it’s good to see a strong enemy become your ally. In “WIND BREAKER,” I thought the bad guys were the main characters, but it was cool that they were on the side of the town protecting them.

— Turning rivals or enemies into allies is a cool thing that’s universal.

FELIP is a big fan of shounen manga, especially the hot-blooded characters, those with overwhelming strength, and aggressive personalities that appear in stories. He is touched by the passionate stories that they weave.
