A dream interview between Maeda Go Affle and Yaguchi Yato, the stars of the live-action film “Blue Period”, has come true! In “Monthly Afternoon”The live-action film “Blue Period” will be released on August 9, 2024. To commemorate this, a four-page dream conversation between Maeda Gordon, who plays the protagonist Yaguchi Yatora in the film, and the protagonist Yaguchi Yatora from the original manga, was realized in the July 25 issue of “Monthly Afternoon”. In addition, a special visual of Yaguchi and Maeda standing side by side, drawn by the original author Yamaguchi Tsubasa exclusively for the magazine, was also unveiled.

“Blue Period” is a long-awaited live-action film adaptation of Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s manga about art school entrance exams, which has been praised both in Japan and abroad, including the Manga Taisho Award and This Manga is Amazing!, and has a total of over 7 million copies in print. The story follows a high school student who has always read the mood around him and gone with the flow, but one painting inspires him to risk everything on the world of art… This heartwarming drama depicts the protagonist’s challenge as he seriously faces what he loves. The lead

role is played by Go Ayano, who has appeared in many popular works, and the talented and popular cast, including Fumiya Takahashi, Rihito Itagaki, and Hiyori Sakurada, will play unique characters. Kentaro Hagiwara, director of “Tokyo Ghoul” and “30 Minutes to Say Goodbye,” created this passionate story with up-and-coming staff.

At the beginning of the interview in “Monthly Afternoon”, Yato said playfully, “I was nervous because I wondered if it was okay for someone this cool to play me.” Maeda responded by asking Yato, “I tried to capture the posture and atmosphere of Yato when he was drawing, but was it okay?”

Next, Yato asked Maeda about the “commonalities” between acting and art, to which Maeda replied, “Yato also aims to create ‘pictures that only he can draw.’ As an actor, I also value being individual and the things that only I can do.”

Maeda continued, “It’s not true that hard work can trump talent. But I’m sure there are expressions and charms that only people who have worked hard and accumulated experience can produce… Rather than being talented, I’m the type who accumulates experience day by day. Now I’ve come to like myself for working hard like that.” In the play, Maeda’s character, Yato, is portrayed struggling, saying, “I’m not a genius, so I have no choice but to work hard until I’m indistinguishable from a genius,” and Maeda himself said he “likes the person who works hard,” revealing some similarities with Yato.

The conversation was also full of stories that only two people who have faced their passion could talk about, such as “What kind of talents do you have?” and “What motivates you to work hard as an actor?” In addition to the newly drawn illustrations that were unveiled this time, the magazine also features rare newly drawn illustrations by Yamaguchi that can only be seen here, such as Yato earnestly drawing a portrait of Maeda as he lies down. Be sure to check out “Monthly Afternoon” to see this dream conversation that was made possible with the release of the live-action movie.
