In addition to the release of the trailer and poster visuals, comments have arrived from Seki Toshihiko, Kiuchi Hidenobu, and director Koga Go.
The trailer, which is mainly made up of retakes, has been released! The previous film received rave reviews for the overwhelming quality and intensity of the battle scenes, and the visuals depicted as horror for adults. This time around, 327 cuts have been retaken to improve the quality from the previous version, and the sound has also been re-dubbed. Among the retakes, there are some that revive the horror scenes that were originally planned in the storyboard.
In the released footage, after a cut of a silhouette emerging from the blood of the cherry blossoms, the caption “The forbidden tale returns” appears. The meeting between Kitaro’s father and Mizuki, which drew many viewers in, the two sharing a drink under the light of a bonfire, and Mizuki speaking to Kitaro’s father through the bars of the cellar, saying “Let’s uncover the mystery surrounding the Ryuga clan that is swirling around in Nakukura Village.” The trailer depicts the story of the Kyokotsu gang that attack the two and the gruesome fate that the Ryuga clan faces, with more blood and horror than the version released last year, making it an R15+ version.
Additionally, the poster visual used when the film was released last year will also be re-released with a new copy and title logo. It includes the copy, “Now, the story of Kitaro’s fathers is told once again,” and posters and flyers will be on display at theaters nationwide starting today.
“The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe” is being shown again? What on earth is that supposed to mean? I was wondering, and it turns out that it’s being shown again under the title “The Real Version.”
So this is the different version with a different rating that I had heard about some time ago! And when you hear that it’s “the horror story that the production team originally envisioned,” you have no choice but to watch it.
The number of new retakes is surprising. So far, this movie has expanded beyond the boundaries of theatrical films through various collaborations such as events and product development.
This time, we will be taking a look at the main story and asking everyone about the appeal of this movie. Whether you are a fan of “The Birth of Kitaro” or have never seen it before, don’t miss this opportunity!
Initially, the director told me that he wanted to create a more extreme version of this film aimed at adults, but I never thought the day would come when we would be able to see that version, especially in a theater!
This film has been released with a PG-12 rating, but I am looking forward to seeing what the production team had in mind.
Since the movie was released last year, there have been a lot of different events, and we are very happy that it continues to be loved by everyone. We look forward to seeing you at the theater for the special edition “The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe – Real Version”!
That was exactly one year ago, when we were taking on the new challenge of turning Kitaro into a horror movie for adults. We on the staff agonized and agonized over how far we could go in our expression, and with our overwhelming desire we decided to take a half step back, and the PG-12 version is the result.
We are very fortunate to have received so much support from our customers that we are now able to release this film in theaters as the “real version,” exactly as we originally intended.
