The hard times I spent as a job seeker struggling with interviews and self-promotion were not a waste! Looking back at the first episode of “Nothing was a waste” — An interview with Fairouz Ai, who plays Sakuragi Kana in “Majirumie Co., Ltd.”The work x magical girl manga “Majirumie Co., Ltd.” currently being serialized in “Jump+” is being made into a TV anime! It will start airing on Nippon TV from Friday, October 4, 2024.

Kana Sakuragi, a female college student struggling with job hunting without receiving any job offers, is discovered to have talent as a magical girl after a certain incident and joins a venture company, Magirumier Co., Ltd. as a new graduate. The world of magical girls that she longs for is not only glamorous, but also dangerous and potentially life-threatening, and there, as Kana grows day by day, she must face natural disasters known as “monsters.”

Animate Times interviewed Fairouz Ai, who plays Sakuragi Kana, about the series that has just started airing! In addition to her thoughts on the first episode and the appeal of the series, we also asked her about her time as a job-hunting student, just like Kana.

–Please tell us your impressions after reading the original work and the script.

Fairouz Ai (Fairouz), voice of Sakuragi Kana: I thought it was very realistic that the main character was aiming to become a member of society. The title itself is catchy, combining the realistic “company name” and the magical girl-like “Magic Girl Mie.”

In terms of the direction of the story, the main character Kana is very humble. I feel frustrated that she is too humble and cannot properly evaluate herself, but seeing her trying her best to absorb everything I learn gave me energy and reminded me of the fresh feelings I had in my first year.

–I never thought I’d see a job hunting scene in a magical girl story (laughs).

Fairouz: That’s true (laughs). I think the world view in which magical girls are an established profession is a new perspective.

–The world view that brings magical girl themes into a modern style, such as costumes and brooms, is unique to this work.

Fairouz: The brooms are maintained by mechanics, and the transformation is done using an employee ID. I think it’s amazing how the world of magical girls that can only be depicted in “Magical Girl Rie” has been established.

–This work is not only impressive for the magical girls, but also for the performances of the supporting characters.

Fairouz: Seeing the supporting characters in action, I got the message that work is something that should be done as a team. Magical girl stories tend to focus only on the magical girls, but this work requires the ability to improvise, to “make the magic ourselves, or make it on the spot if it doesn’t exist,” so each individual’s individuality is important.

And yet, at the beginning, Kana has low self-esteem and finds it hard to voice her opinions. At times like that, everyone around her says, “We believe in you, so give it a try.” They give her that positive push. And it’s encouraging to see Kana herself realize her own charms through her interactions with everyone, and it reminds me that we’re a team where no one is missing.
