The Japanese title has been decided as “The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of Rohan” and the film is scheduled to be released in theaters on Friday, December 27th this winter!
In addition, two trailers, the Japanese version and the international version, were released simultaneously worldwide. The luxurious Japanese voice cast, including Masachika Ichimura, Fuka Koshiba, and Kenjiro Tsuda, was also revealed.
The film “The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of Rohan,” whose Japanese title has finally been decided, is an original story that expands on the description of King Helm, the strongest king in Rohan, the country of knights, popular among fans of the original novel, as depicted in the novel “The Lord of the Rings Supplement.”
In the footage, which was unveiled for the first time in the world, the nostalgic theme tune plays and it is revealed that the story takes place 200 years ago, and is connected to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The protagonist of this new story is the young princess Hela, who faces her enemies with beautiful and powerful eyes. Under the protection of her father, the great King Helm, the proud country of knights, Rohan, has enjoyed peace for a long time. However, Hela’s childhood friend Wolf appears as an enemy, threatening the peace of the kingdom. To protect the people of Rohan, Hela is destined to fight for the fate of the country. Along with the raging battle scenes, the legendary battle that will decide the fate of Middle-earth begins!
The film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, a leading figure in Japanese animation, and is animated by Studio Sola Entertainment, a Japanese studio known for works such as Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045: Sustainable War.

In the video, we see the horn, the great eagle, Mumakir, the orc, and even Saruman the White and the Horn Castle, all familiar to fans of The Lord of the Rings. The great King Helm of Rohan, the country of knights, will be played by Masachika Ichimura, who is not only an actor but also a voice actor in various anime works.
The role of the main character, Princess Hera, who is entrusted with the fate of the kingdom, is played by Fuka Koshiba, who has a wide range of talent, including popular films and dramas, as well as variety shows and TV commercials .
Furthermore, Wolf, Hela’s childhood friend and a threat to the kingdom, will be played by Tsuda Kenjiro , who has played many popular characters, including Nanami Kento from “Jujutsu Kaisen,” and has been a prominent actor in both TV dramas and movies .
The companions from The Lord of the Rings will also be reunited. The role of Olwyn, who supports Princess Hela, will be played by Takako Honda, who was the Japanese voice of Éowyn, who appears in the kingdom of Rohan in The Lord of the Rings . In the subtitled version, Miranda Otto, who also gave a passionate performance as Éowyn, will play Olwyn, making this a miraculous collaboration that transcends time.
The orc Lot, an important character in the story, will be played by Manabu Muraji, who also did the Japanese dubbing for Meriadoch Brandybuck, played by Dominic Monaghan in The Lord of the Rings .
The role of Rohan’s servant, Leaf, will be played by Jun Tatani , who played Hiccup in “How to Train Your Dragon” and also appears in Kenji Kamiyama’s “Eden of the East .”
I’ve always wanted to appear in such a feature-length animated film, so I’m very happy. I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the big eyes of the main character, Frodo Baggins, made a big impression on me. His eyes tell the story of his epic adventure, as he fears, rejoices, and looks to the future. This film is set 200 years before that, so I’m sure it will be a story that gets to the heart of the Lord of the Rings.
The character I play, King Helm, is so strong that he is called the “Hammer King” because he can knock down enemies with just one fist. Just recording the voiceover for this trailer required so much energy that I lost my voice. This film depicts the emotional drama of King Helm and Princess Hera. As a parent of two children myself, I think there are parts of the story I can relate to. I hope everyone will look forward to the finished film.
『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』3部作は、公開から20年以上たった今でも新鮮で本当に面白い。ハラハラドキドキのストーリー展開と、“一つの指輪”を巡って人間の欲深さにも迫る素晴らしい作品です。
アニメの吹替声優を務めさせていただくのは初めてですが、世界中で多くの方に愛され続けるシリーズの新たな物語の主人公としてヘラ王女に挑戦できることに、とても大きなプレッシャーを感じ、そして一生懸命にやり遂げたい気持ちでいっぱいです。
ヘラ王女は、父親のヘルム王に愛されまっすぐ育ち、馬を乗りこなし剣技にも長けた凛々しい女性。最初は戸惑いながらも、王女として民を守るために王国の危機に立ち向かう、責任と覚悟がある芯の強いキャラクターです。
本編のアフレコはもう少し先ですが、『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』ファンの方にはもちろん、シリーズ初見の方にも楽しんで観ていただけると思います。責任重大ですが、この壮大な物語の完成を、皆さん楽しみに待っていてください。

神山健治監督の魅力は、複雑で哲学的な要素を持ち合わせながら、誰でも楽しめるエンターテイメント作品に仕上げていること。私が演じるウルフは、ただの悪役ではなく彼なりの理由とドラマを抱えているキャラクターです。現実にも通じるテーマで、神山監督がどんな作品に仕上げていくのか、今からとても楽しみにしています。
あの壮大な世界観と躍動感あるアクションと物語をそのままに、アニメーションならではの『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』になると思います。シリーズが好きな方も、知らない方も、ファンタジーの世界をたっぷりと楽しんでいただける作品になると思います。

お話をいただいた時は大変驚きましたが、とても嬉しかったです。“メリアドク・ブランディバック（メリー）”として日本語吹替で出演した三部作の最初が2001年なので、あれからほぼ四半世紀が経とうとしています。その間、様々な形でロード・オブ・ザ・リングの世界に関わり続けることが出来て本当に幸せです。
メリーにとってもゆかりの地、ローハンでの戦いが描かれる今作ですが、これまでとは全く違う役柄で出演されたドミニク・モナハンさんにも感謝！ですね。その変貌ぶりはぜひ劇場でご覧ください！！
出演のお話をいただく前日に『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』の解説動画を視聴したばかりだったので、これはヴァラールの導きだったのかもしれません。映画が上映されていた当時小学生だった僕はサウロンの指輪に魅了され、全然関係ない指輪のカプセルトイを回した思い出があります。
今回僕が担当させていただくリーフはヘラの従者です。少し臆病なところがありますが、過酷な運命を歩むヘラの支えになろうと頑張る心の優しい子です。僕だったら絶対指輪を運べませんが、リーフは多分ギリギリ運べると思います！
歴代シリーズに負けない作品作りの一助になれるよう頑張りますので、新たな中つ国の物語が皆さまの元に届く日を楽しみにしていて下さい！
