The head of the Ashikaga clan, a famous samurai family. He was originally a warrior who served the Hojo clan and supported the Kamakura Shogunate, but rebelled and brought about the downfall of the Shogunate. He charms people with his overwhelming military power and intense charisma, but beneath his gentle smile, it seems that an unfathomable true intention is hidden.

Ashikaga Takauji, who comes from a famous samurai family, is a man who excels in martial arts and has many brave feats. He is so strong that he can instantly kill the many enemies who attack him in an attempt to kill them. His enemies have attempted to assassinate him many times, but due to his overwhelming strength and lack of weaknesses, the attempts never succeed.

Takauji’s greatest weapon, even more so than his military power, was his charisma. His ability to attract people was extraordinary, and his gentle smile charmed not only the common people and warriors, but even the emperor himself. With his superhuman powers, he won over many people and became the ruler of Japan.

Takauji is usually a gentle and generous person, but his actions are full of contradictions; he can easily kill someone if a casual comment displeases him, and he has twice rebelled despite behaving in a manner that shows no ambition.

Furthermore, regarding the coup that overthrew the Kamakura Shogunate, even though he was the mastermind, he says that “it ended up being destroyed in the end,” as if he had no clear intention behind it. He sounds like an innocent child. Perhaps to him, the downfall of the Shogunate was just part of a game.

From time to time, Takauji would reveal hideous monsters beneath his gentle smile, calling them “greedy demons” and groaning inside his body, saying, “Give me everything.” Takauji was an inconsistent, superhuman character who harbored a monster within him. For the young Tokiyuki, he was a formidable nemesis.

In the story, Takauji is depicted as a hideous monster, but it seems that he possesses divine powers just like Suwa Yorishige. Furthermore, it is unclear whether Takauji himself is aware of this, and yet the strength of his divine powers exceeds that of Yorishige, who is a living god.

The divine power is influenced by one’s state of mind, and the more human one becomes, the weaker its power becomes. Takauji’s actions and words are often incomprehensible and inhuman, so perhaps he has acquired a strong divine power.

Takauji (known as Takauji at the time) originally served Tokiyuki’s father. Takauji always greeted Tokiyuki with a kind smile, and Tokiyuki found him a reliable presence. However, after he rebelled, he suddenly became Tokiyuki’s sworn enemy.

Tokiyuki, who was to go to Kyoto before starting the great war, and his retainers carried out the assassination of Takauji, and his face was seen during the assassination. If his true identity had been discovered, he would have been killed for sure. However, Takauji did not remember Tokiyuki’s face.

Tokiyuki was speechless, but Takauji even invited him to become his favorite boy (a servant boy), unconsciously heaping the highest insult on the son of his former lord.

Tokiyuki was furious, but the three-man ambush was easily avoided and the assassination attempt ended in failure. Although he barely managed to escape with his life, Tokiyuki was extremely frustrated that he was powerless in front of his sworn enemy, and was determined to defeat Takauji, vowing to become even stronger.

With Tokiyuki revealing his true identity as the general, the Hojo forces waged a great war, defeating the defending Ashikaga forces and successfully recapturing Kamakura. However, before Tokiyuki had time to reminisce about his hometown, Takauji, who was in Kyoto, led a large army and invaded Kamakura.

However, the Hojo army fought bravely, pushing back the Ashikaga army and approaching Takauji’s main camp. Takauji, who was in a desperate situation, suddenly became very upset and stabbed himself in the neck with a dagger. Tokiyuki and the Hojo soldiers were stunned by his unexpected action.

However, for some reason, the sword missed the vital spot, and Takauji muttered, “I’m not going to die… I have no choice but to fight.” At that moment, a halo much stronger than Yorishige’s began to shine from Takauji, and the Hojo soldiers who were hit by the halo surrendered one by one.

Legend has it that Takauji had an inhuman personality. One phenomenon that symbolizes this incomprehensibility is when his enemies all surrender when Takauji is in a desperate situation. Tokiyuki is overwhelmed by Takauji, whose strength is inhuman. The Hojo army, which was supposed to be pushing forward, is quickly weakened and suffers a crushing defeat, and Tokiyuki is chased out of Kamakura again.
