Additionally, the film’s poster visual, trailer, and information on giveaways for moviegoers have all been released at once. Comments from director Tsuneo Goda and producer Ayano Kinashi have also been released.
Komaneko’s International Trip, her first new work in 11 years, is a short film that depicts the friendship and growth of the main character, Koma-chan, who goes on her first overseas trip.
It is scheduled to be released in theaters along with three other films from the stop-motion film series, Komaneko, which are highly regarded as masterpieces: The First Step, Spinner and Radiobo, and True Friends.
The latest work in the “Komaneko” series, which has been running for 20 years. Things that children can’t let go of seem to adults to be “things that they will have to let go of someday…” This short animation was created after seeing a video of a child evacuating from Ukraine with a stuffed toy, and I was particular about expressing the ever-changing feelings of the children.
It has been 20 years since the time-lapse filming of “Komaneko”, the stop-motion “cat”, was born. This film, produced to commemorate the 20th anniversary, was made through public filming with the entire filming location on display. The children who came to see Komaneko when it was first made 20 years ago have grown up, and the students who loved Komaneko as an art piece back then have become parents, and they came to see Komaneko with their children at this exhibition. This film, produced using the timeless technique of stop-motion filming, has been made possible by restoring the dolls and art sets that have been cherished since then, and by reuniting the staff from that time, we have been able to breathe new life into it. Why not join us in feeling Koma-chan’s emotional growth?
The released poster visual shows Koma-chan looking happy, holding an airline ticket in her right hand and a travel bag in her left, with the copy, “I wish I could stay with the things I love forever.”
In the trailer, Koma-chan is seen excited about her first overseas trip, but then suddenly her eyes are filled with tears.
What on earth happened to Koma-chan? This is a heartwarming film that only stop motion pictures can provide, and will warm your heart with the adorable appearance of Koma-chan.
