“Blue Lock” is a TV anime based on the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, which is currently being serialized in Kodansha’s “Weekly Shonen Magazine” and has sold over 30 million copies. The story follows 300 high school forwards who are gathered in “Blue Lock” (Blue Prison) as they aim to become the world’s best striker, risking their soccer careers and goals in a knockout contest.
The first season of the TV anime aired on TV Asahi from October 2022 to March 2023. From April 2024, “Blue Lock: Episode Nagi” will be released as the first theatrical version to depict the battles at “Blue Lock (Blue Prison)” on the big screen from the perspective of Seishiro Nagi, who has extraordinary soccer skills.
It has now been announced that the second season of this series will begin airing on October 5th. It will be a total of 14 episodes and will be broadcast on the new TV Asahi nationwide anime slot “IMAnimation” every Saturday at 11:30pm.
Furthermore, new characters who will stand in the way of Kiyoshi and the Blue Lock members, as well as cast information, have been announced.
Hino Satoshi will play Oliva Aizora, captain of the U-20 Japan national team, known as the “Diamond Generation” for their impenetrable defense and abundant talent, while Wakayama Akihisa will play Sendou Akito, a highly skilled player who has served as the ace of the U-20 Japan national team and a regular forward in the Japanese first division league.
In response to the announcement, Hino commented, “My first impression when I read the original work was that it was a very unique work with a strong personality and a unique charm. Not only the work itself, but each of the characters also has a very strong personality, and I was attracted to the way these characters grow as a team while expressing their own opinions.”
Wakayama talked about his impressions of the work and the character he plays, saying, “The story focuses on ‘ego’ and ‘egoists,’ which generally have a strong negative image, and depicts them in a passionate way within the team sport of soccer, without being unpleasant, as the key to the failures, challenges, and growth of each character. I really look forward to seeing how these individuals change within a group made up of strong individuals, and even though I used to overwhelmingly read manga in book form, I’ve started following the latest chapters for the first time in a long time (laughs).”
The second season of the TV anime “Blue Lock” will be broadcast on TV Asahi’s nationwide network “IMAnimation” slot from October 5th, with a total of 14 episodes. We look forward to hearing more news in the future.
