The “Rurouni Kenshin 30th Anniversary Exhibition: Shishio Makoto” will be held at Space Galleria KYOTO (6th floor, Avanti Kyoto) from Friday, October 4th, 2024 to Monday, November 4th (holiday).

This event is an exhibition of original drawings from “Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story,” which is celebrating its 30th anniversary since the start of serialization. Set in Kyoto, the exhibition will be sure to please fans, as it will feature the powerful original drawings and displays by Watsuki Nobuhiro, depicting the fierce battles that Kenshin and Shishio’s group waged.

In this article, we will provide a photo report of some of the event!

For this event, the entire venue is designed to resemble Shishio’s hideout.

Once you pass through the shrine at the entrance, you’ll see Kenshin’s group and the Oniwaban secret police confronting Shishio’s group, who fought a fierce battle in the “Kyoto Arc,” giving the impression that the story is about to begin.

In the areas from “Shugo-no-ma” to “Mugen-no-ma,” scenes of fierce battles with Shishio’s group that stood in their way on the way to Shishio’s location are recreated, allowing you to experience in a powerful way the deadly battles with powerful enemies that appear one after another.

There are many original drawings on display that convey the realism that can only be experienced with original drawings, such as Watsuki’s dynamic lines and use of white, and you can’t help but exclaim in admiration.

In addition to the original artwork on display, there are also interactive exhibits, such as a photo spot that recreates Yukyuzan Anji’s magnificent technique, “Double Extremity,” and an exhibit inspired by Uonuma Usui’s “Mind’s Eye”!

Also not to be missed is the display of a life-size reverse-blade sword, a symbol of Kenshin’s unwavering vow to never kill!

In “Daishunetsu no Ma,” which recreates the final battle between Kenshin and Shishio, numerous deadly battles amidst raging flames are exhibited in a spectacular manner, creating a tense atmosphere that will leave you breathless.

Once you leave the “Great Burning Room,” you’ll come face to face with original illustrations of Kenshin and Shishio by Nobuhiro Watsuki, drawn especially for this event. Be sure to enjoy the powerful brush strokes of these two.

In addition, precious drafts drawn by Nobuhiro Watsuki for the first season of the anime will also be on display!
