Euphonium 3, he is also in charge of performing the wind instruments that appear in the movie.
It would not be an exaggeration to describe the sound of a “progressive! Wind Orchestra = the sound of the Kitauji High School Brass Band”, and this day’s mini-concert was performed by the same orchestra under the direction of Masahiro Owada, who is the wind orchestra supervisor for the series. This was an opportunity to present a special arrangement of wind instruments that appear in the anime.

Around 1:00 p.m., around 20 members of the orchestra, wearing matching official T-shirts with the “KITAUJI” logo, appear on Via Cinecittà and line up with their instruments in hand. The mini-concert began with a marching performance of “RYDEEN” (original song: YMO). Following the lead of the drum major, they paraded several dozen meters to the central fountain plaza while playing music.
Behind it is the message Sound! The mascot character, Tuba-kun, who appears in the "Euphonium" series is also included. The venue was filled with excitement as it was revealed that some of the performers on that day had actually participated in the recording of “RYDEEN” that was played in the anime. When Masahiro Owada, the conductor, was called in, two songs were played in succession. First up is “Tutti! & Vivace! (Wind Orchestra Ver.)”. It is a medley of the TV anime season 1’s ending theme “Tutti!” and the second season’s ending theme “Vivace!” (both original theme songs sung by the Kitauji Quartet), arranged with a brass band, and has a lively tone. The addition of the depth of the wind instruments that is unique to a wind band makes for a very powerful performance.
And the other song is from the TV anime “Sound! “Koi” (original song: Gen Hoshino), which was played in the first episode of “Euphonium 3”, was performed live for the first time. Claps erupted from the audience, and many people enjoyed themselves while swaying their bodies to the light melody and rhythm.
Ensembles with a large number of people are the real thrill of wind music, but the appeal of solo performance is also depicted in Sound!'' The piece is called "Euphonium." Here, one of the songs that symbolizes this series, the TV anime "Sound! Yuta Ishikura, who also served as a soloist at the regular concert, will perform the euphonium solo song Sound! Euphonium”, which was also the memorial ending theme for the final episode of “Euphonium 2”.
The melody, which takes advantage of the deep sound unique to the euphonium, which plays the bass part, and the gently enveloping tone melt softly into the open outdoor stage. It was a great performance that reminded me of Asuka Tanaka’s performance in the movie, including that situation.
And the next song is already the last number. Amidst the disappointed voices from the audience, they ended with TRUE’s performance of the wind orchestra version of the opening theme song for the first season of the TV anime, “DREAM SOLISTER (Wind Orchestra Ver.)”. The exhilarating and courageous melody is perfect for a brass band arrangement, and during the chorus, the orchestra members jump while playing, making it a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. The final chorus featured the soft tones of woodwind instruments, creating a sense of slowness and speed, and the song concluded with a dynamic and powerful ensemble.
しかしアンコールの拍手は鳴り止むことなく続き、その期待に応えてもう1曲演奏することに。この日は屋外での演奏イベントということで、「あの曲をやらねば終われない」（鳥越）と披露されたのは、吹奏楽の定番曲として知られる「宝島」（原曲：T-SQUARE）。作品のファンにとっては、TVアニメ第2期の京都駅ビルでの屋外コンサートで演奏された楽曲としてお馴染みだ。アゴゴベルが叩くサンバの軽快なリズムに合わせてノリ良く展開していく楽曲に、オーディエンスも笑顔でクラップして盛り上がる。
曲中でサックス奏者が前に出てソロを吹いたり、トランペットやトロンボーン隊がフィーチャーされる場面もあったりと、ファンキーな盛り上がりを見せるなか、最後は全員が息を合わせてピシッと締めてミニコンサートは終幕した。
ミニコンサート終了後は、『響け！ユーフォニアム』シリーズの歴代OP主題歌を担当するTRUEのリリースイベントが開催された。ライブは2期OP主題歌の「サウンドスケープ」に始まり、3期OP主題歌「ReCoda」の歌唱時にはチューバくんも姿を見せて賑やかす。最後は2023年に劇場公開された『特別編 響け！ユーフォニアム～アンサンブルコンテスト～』の主題歌「アンサンブル」をファンと共に合唱し、会場が一体感に包まれるなかフィナーレ。『響け！ユーフォニアム』関連楽曲を3曲披露し、大盛り上がりの中イベントは終了した。
『響け！ユーフォニアム』シリーズの音楽の魅力を改めて届けた今回のイベント。観覧自由だったこともあり、たまたま通りかかった人たちも足を止めて聴き入っていたのが印象的で、そこには生演奏の吹奏楽ならではの素晴らしい音楽体験があったのではないだろうか。
プログレッシブ！ウインド・オーケストラの演奏は、現在放送中の『響け！ユーフォニアム３』の劇中曲や同作のサウンドトラックでも聴けるほか、彼らの演奏によるアニメ主題歌のアレンジバージョンをまとめたベストアルバム『”Sound! Euphonium” Best Theme Songs Collection Wind Orchestra Ver.』のリリースも決定しているので、気になった人はぜひチェックしてみよう。
