On June 1st (Saturday), a stage greeting event will be held at United Cinema Toyosu to commemorate the completion of the theatrical animation “Look Back” with the cast and director on stage. Two of today’s hottest actors, Yumi Kawai (Fujino) and Mitsuki Yoshida (Kyomoto), who took on the challenge of voice acting for the first time in this work, as well as director Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who worked on this work, took to the stage. .
“Look Back” (to be released on June 28th), an animated film based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s youth manga, has finally been completed! A preview screening of the completed film was held at a movie theater in Tokyo on June 1st, with actors Yumi Kawai and Mitsuki Yoshida, and director Kiyotaka Oshiyama in attendance.
Kawai, who plays the role of Fujino, commented on the first screening of the film, which was just completed yesterday, saying, “We are so jealous that we were able to see such a wonderful, freshly made work on screen, and I think everyone is extremely lucky.Please take your time and enjoy watching it. ” he greeted with a big smile.
Yoshida, who plays Kyomoto, said with a smile, “I’m happy that everyone can see the work that started with an audition today.”
Director Oshiyama completed the main story last night with great care. “Every day was thrilling, like I was doing a hard triathlon every day. I slept at the office for about two and a half months until it was completed, and I was finally able to go home yesterday and sleep on my futon,” he said, immersing himself in the production. He confessed that there were days when he did so.
Kawai, who is a fan of the original work, talked about the appeal of the manga, saying, “It was the first time I encountered a manga that quietly moved people with Fujimoto-sensei’s way of creating a story and the accumulation of panels, and I was moved by that. The energy that I feel that I want to make into a manga is conveyed directly to the readers.”
Yoshida also picked out his favorite cut, saying, “The picture of Fujino running in the rain was a great way to capture this facial expression in a manga, and I was impressed by Fujimoto-sensei’s calm drawing ability.”
This is Kawai and Yoshida’s first challenge as voice actors. When asked about his impressions of the dubbing, Kawai said, “Since I don’t have the skills to be a voice actor, I was thinking about what I could do.But I thought that even if I thought about it, I wouldn’t find the answer until I tried, so I went to the dubbing site. I wanted to be able to honestly infuse the sensibilities that I had cultivated over the years into the character,” he says, reminiscing about the role innocently.
Yoshida said, “The script was different from what I normally see, and the rough sketches were all new to me.I started by learning that.Professional voice actors turn the pages with one hand to avoid making noise, so , I was very particular about the riddles and practiced them, but for the actual performance, I turned the pages over with both hands…” he said with a shy smile.
Kawai and Yoshida both agreed that their first attempt at voice acting was “difficult,” but director Oshiyama praised it, saying, “It didn’t feel like it was my first time, and it was on par with professional voice actors,” adding, “Mr. Kawai took it one step further from the norm. He is good at including nuances with his presence. He clearly shined in the audition, and his voice was attractive. I ended up putting him in a situation where he had to practice speaking the Akita dialect so fast, but for the actual performance. I was surprised at how perfect they were. They were the perfect roles. I was lucky to find their voices during the audition.”
Regarding his role in Kyomoto, Yoshida said, During the dialect instruction, the director said something shocking to me, saying, I sense an element of recluse in your natural voice.” I wondered if that was a good thing, but I didn’t realize that. Director Oshiyama said, The impression of Yoshida-san's voice is that of a negative person.I got the impression that this girl seemed negative.I could feel the unpretentiousness in her voice.'' explanation. To this, Yoshida admitted with a wry smile, Maybe I’m not wrong…”
On the other hand, regarding Fujino, who played the role, Kawai said, “When I saw the finished work, I felt like I was watching my own childhood.I was a child like Fujino. I remember when I was a child that I would get cocky when it comes to things I can do better than others, and I think that’s Fujino’s weakness as a person. I found her flaws endearing, and I saw them in myself,” she said, empathizing with him.
アニメーション化にあたり押山監督は「大変だったのは、圧倒的な物量の作画。原作の絵が描き込みの多いリアルタッチの絵柄なので、アニメ表現でも原作に近づけたいと思いました。普段のアニメのデザインではやらないような、ニュアンスで絵が変わるタッチの表現に踏み込んだので、多くのアニメーションとは違う異質なものに仕上がっている気がします」とこだわりを口にしていた。
また映画の内容にちなんで「小学生時代の夢」を発表。
河合は「子供の頃は絵ばかり描いていて、小学生の卒業アルバムにはグラフィックデザイナーと書いていました。CDジャケットやパッケージをやる人になりたいなと。でもグラフィックデザイナーという響きに憧れていたんだと思います」と照れながらもかつての夢を告白。
吉田は「小学2年生の頃は可愛い洋服を着れるという不純な動機でモデルになりたいと思っていました。その後はテニスやバスケ、バレエ、そろばんをやったりして自分の夢を探すような習い事をしていました」と打ち明けた。
舞台挨拶もあっと言う間に終了。
ついに本編上映の時間を迎えて河合は「私は完成した本編を見て、心から素晴らしいアニメーション映画だと思いましたし、参加させて頂けて良かったとも思いました。押山清高監督の作品を世界中の皆さんが発見していくことが私はとても楽しみです」とアピール。
吉田は「描かれている二人の友情や青春のきらめきはどんな人の心にも刺さるものがあると思います。とにかく画が綺麗だし、大好きな作品なので皆さんに見ていただいて多くの人に広げてほしいです」と呼びかけた。
押山監督も「多くのスタッフが映像化に関わって頑張ってくれて完成した作品。それが藤本先生への返礼になっていたら良いなと思います。映画をご覧になった皆さんには、より多くの方々に広めていただきたいです」と6月28日の封切りに期待を込めていた。
