The SOMPO Museum of Art in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, will be hosting a groundbreaking exhibition titled “Canaletto and the Splendor of Venice” from October 12, 2024, to December 28, 2024. This is the first exhibition in Japan to showcase the complete oeuvre of Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as Canaletto, the famed master of veduta or landscape painting.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition will feature around 60 of Canaletto’s masterpieces, including oil paintings, drawings, and prints, primarily sourced from British collections such as the Scottish National Gallery. Attendees can immerse themselves in the detailed and majestic depictions of 18th-century Venice, capturing the city’s grandeur through Canaletto’s eyes.
Audio Guide by Daisuke Namikawa
Adding a unique touch to the exhibition, renowned voice actor and narrator Daisuke Namikawa will be the voice behind the audio guide. Namikawa, known for his roles in popular series such as “Lupin III” and “One Piece,” will guide visitors through the highlights of Canaletto’s works and the historical charm of Venice.
