The courage given to face difficulties by Houtarou and Rinne – An interview with Ichinose Houtarou/Kamen Rider Gatchard voice actor Motoshima Junmasa and Kudou Rinne/Kamen Rider Majeed voice actor Matsumoto Reise in the film “Kamen Rider Gatchard: The Future Daybreak” | “If Houtarou won’t give up, then I can’t lose either”The movie “Kamen Rider Gatchard: The Future Daybreak” will be released nationwide on Friday, July 26, 2024. (It will be shown simultaneously with “Bakujo Sentai Bunbunger Theater BOON! Promise the Circuit”).

The setting of this work is the future world where Kamen Rider Gatchard Daybreak (=Future Houtarou) exists. Houtarou and Rinne, who have overcome various difficulties, challenge the battle to overturn the future of despair, making it a fitting culmination of the series. And what is the shocking truth that Future Houtarou will reveal…?

Animate Times brings you cast interviews to commemorate the release! This time, we spoke to Junji Motoshima, who plays Hōtarō Ichinose/Kamen Rider Gatchard, and Reise Matsumoto, who plays Rinne Kudō/Kamen Rider Majeed, about the highlights of the movie and the growth of the characters they play.

–In the TV series, the exciting events continue even after all 101 Chemies are gathered.

Sumimasa Motoshima (hereinafter, Motoshima): Since Chemie has been reunited, the story has accelerated even more. There are many scenes where the members of the Alchemy Academy fight together as one. On the other hand, because they are now able to speak honestly with each other, there are also times when differences arise. I feel that this has an impact on the story.

Reise Matsumoto (hereinafter, Matsumoto): There are more scenes where each character shines, various pasts are explored in depth, and new problems arise… From here on, the story will move towards the climax with a lot of content, so I hope you don’t miss a single episode.

–Now, let’s talk about the movie. First of all, I was surprised to hear that the story is set in the future. I wondered if episodes 16 to 18 of the TV series and the end of episode 35 would be connected here.

Motoshima: I think the viewers are the same, but I myself was very curious about the story of the world line of Kamen Rider Gatchard Daybreak. The story of Kamen Rider Gatchard exists because of the future Houtarou, so Houtarou also bears responsibility for the world he gave us. I want to reflect that background in the performance of Houtarou that I play. When I think, “What if Daybreak (Future Houtarou) hadn’t come that day (Episode 16)…”, I feel really scared.

In the movie, the story of the future Hōtarō, played by DAIGO, is carefully depicted, and it’s like another story of “Kamen Rider Gatchard”. I think that even people who haven’t seen the TV series can enjoy the content.

–The characters of the Houtarou played by Motoshima and the future Houtarou are quite different.

Motoshima: Compared to the current Houtarou, I think he has a much calmer personality. He has a bit of a tragic feeling, and has given up on a lot of things. However, behind the way he has become is the sadness of losing his friends. Even so, he continues to stand up to Glion, but there is a wall that he just can’t get over.

I think that for Houtarou, “friends” are a very important thing. I think that by losing that most important thing, he gradually changed into the kind of personality he will have in the future.

-What did you think about the story of this film, which depicts a future world?

Matsumoto: It’s a touching story. I found myself shedding tears many times while reading the script. I was moved every time I read it, so I wanted to convey this emotion to the viewers, and I acted as hard as I could. I think everyone worked hard and it turned out to be a great piece, so I hope you’ll watch it many times.

–It’s a story that’s more serious than anything you’ve seen before, which is why it resonates so deeply with you.

Matsumoto: Yes. I can’t say much, but I was particularly moved by the scenes involving Rinne in the future. In addition, I empathized strongly with the scene in which Rinne’s emotions overflow during the battle with the enemy Alzado. I also felt a desire for Rinne to “do his best,” and was moved by many scenes.

–I felt that this work was also a culmination of the bond between Hōtarō and Rinne.
