–Please tell us how you felt when you were chosen to appear in the “Doraemon” birthday special.

Kobayashi Chiaki (hereinafter, Kobayashi) : I’ve loved this series since I was a child, so I never dreamed I’d be able to appear in such a memorable episode as “Doraemon’s Birthday Special.”

I would be so happy that I wish I could go back in time in a time machine and tell my past self how it’s done (laughs).

-What did you keep in mind when playing the role of the hero Theseus?

Kobayashi : He is a young man who has the air of a strong, brave hero, but he also gives the impression of being a little immature, showing off his strength and being absent-minded at crucial times.

So rather than portraying a complete hero, I tried to be conscious of the character being “on the way to becoming a hero.”

–Which of Doraemon’s secret gadgets would you like to use?

Kobayashi : When I was little, I admired the “Honwaka Cap.” When I was having a family party, the adults looked like they were having a lot of fun, and I wanted to join in as soon as possible.

Now that I’m an adult, there are so many secret gadgets I want to use that I can’t narrow it down to just one (laughs).

–Please give a message to all the viewers who are looking forward to “Doraemon’s Birthday Special”!

Kobayashi : I think everyone has heard the stories of the Minotaur and Theseus at least once, but this story is wonderful and full of the kind of fun that is typical of “Doraemon.”

You’ll laugh, be thrilled, and even learn! Look forward to this fascinating adventure!

Doraemon (voice: Mizuta Wasabi), Nobita (voice: Ohara Megumi), Shizuka (voice: Kakazu Yumi), Gian (voice: Kimura Subaru), and Suneo (voice: Seki Tomokazu) get on a time machine and arrive in Athens, Greece in the 5th century BC. In fact, Nobita and his friends came to give Doraemon the “world’s first birthday cake,” but they are excited when the Parthenon appears before their eyes. They quickly change into ancient Greek clothes using the “dress-up camera” and stroll around the city using “translation konnyaku.”

On a street corner, he comes across a bard singing and playing the harp. The song he is singing is about the hero Theseus, who entered the labyrinth of the bull monster Minotaur, rescued the humans who had been gathered as sacrifices, and escaped the labyrinth by following the thread given to him by Princess Ariadne.

However, during his walk, Nobita returns to retrieve something he forgot, accidentally operating the time machine, and travels another 1,000 years through time and space, crash-landing in Athens in the 15th century BC. On top of that, he is unfortunately captured as a sacrifice and taken to an island…!

They arrive on the island of Crete, where a maritime civilization flourished at the time. Could it be that Nobita will be offered as a sacrifice to the Minotaur, just as the bard had sung about? To save Nobita, Doraemon and his friends go back in time and head to the labyrinth on Crete, but…? Meanwhile, Nobita meets a man named Theseus (voice: Kobayashi Chiaki), who was also captured as a sacrifice…?
