On May 29th, a preview screening of episodes 1 and 2 was held ahead of the broadcast! After the screening, there was a talk show with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who plays Mao Tsuchiya, and Yuuma Uchida, who plays Hisashi Otomo.
From start to finish, the two of them showed how close they were as seniors and juniors. Although the conversation often went off topic, we will report on how they had a great time.
The program started with a screening of episodes 1 and 2. It began with Mao and Kotobuki, who live in the same room at the school dormitory, making a vow to live together in front of a video camera. Mao is a member of the film club who has yet to experience love, while Kotobuki is gay and has a girlfriend. Although the two seem to have completely opposite personalities, they somehow get along well.
As they live together, Mao begins to become conscious of Kotobuki, but she doesn’t understand the meaning of her feelings. One day, the film club decides to make a BL movie, with Kotobuki playing the lead role. Preparations for filming go smoothly, and the day of shooting finally arrives. Kotobuki returns to the room with a swollen face. Mao is worried. As Kotobuki begins to tell her what happened, Mao’s emotions begin to stir…
In this anime, various couples appear, including Mao and Kotobuki, and there are many monologues, and the subtle changes in their expressions show the delicate movements and fluctuations of their emotions. As I listened to the monologues about their partners, I empathized with the characters more and more, and in the scenes where they got closer, my heart was pounding, and I felt an impatient desire for their feelings to be reciprocated soon.
I think many people will be reminded of their school days and will have fond memories of bittersweetness and bittersweetness. First of all, I was excited to see how the relationship between Mao and Kotobuki would develop, and I wanted to see the third episode as soon as possible.
After the screening, the host, Neki Matsuzawa, appeared and the talk show began. He introduced Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who plays Mao Tsuchiya, and Yuuma Uchida, who plays Hisashi Otomo.
After finishing his greeting, Matsuoka asked Uchida, “Oh, aren’t you going to do it?” He then said, “You’re a terrible senior! You are!” and added, “Thank you all for coming today,” and then he raised his right hand and lowered it around his chest, saying, “Focus on me!”
Matsuoka said, “As expected. I don’t have the courage to do that.” Uchida said with an embarrassed look on his face, “About 20 seconds before (going on stage), he said, ‘Don’t you have any jokes?’…See, that’s the atmosphere that you’ve been creating!” At this point, Matsuoka said, “There was a lot of clapping,” and the audience burst into applause when they saw Uchida, who looked sad and said, “Clapping?”
Seeing this, Uchida-san expressed his gratitude by saying, “What a kind world. Thank you.” Matsuoka-san said, “I want to live in such a kind world,” to which Uchida-san replied, “I am here today. In the kind world of ‘Twilight Out of Focus.'” For some reason, I felt like I was watching a grand prologue (laughs).
First, regarding the roles they will be playing, Matsuoka said, “She had never been in love before, but then she met Kotobuki. Their relationship begins with a declaration, but that oath later comes back to haunt her like a curse. Mao also has parts where she doesn’t know how to interact with Kotobuki, and there are parts where she’s like… (clearing her throat as if to mutter). I’ll leave it to you to enjoy watching.”
