The opening video was shown for the first time during the broadcast of the second episode of the anime today, Friday, October 11th! At the same time, the non-credit opening video was also released on the Aniplex YouTube channel.
Additionally, an explanatory video by game caster Kishi Taiga titled “Live Commentary! Gun Gale Online” has also been released.

The opening director was animator Chikara Matsuura, and with the opening theme “GG” by ReoNa, the video was created to be a little different from regular anime opening videos, with a focus on color and a sense of speed to the music.
The video this time focuses on commentary on the battle scenes within the work, and features commentary by game caster “Kishi Taiga” and commentary by Aniplex producer Hashimoto on one exciting scene from the anime.
The first episode, released today, features one of the fierce battle scenes in episode 2, with Kishi’s passionate commentary overlaid on the main character Ren’s battle scene, creating a new video that differs from the audio commentary video by overlaying commentary over anime footage.

■ Anime “Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II” “Live! Gun Gale Online” Episode 1
— I think this was your first time doing a live commentary of an anime, so what were your impressions of doing it?
Kishi: I really struggled with which parts to include in the commentary. In the games I usually work on, the players are always moving around in real time. On the other hand, in Gun Gale Online, in order to provide information in an easy-to-understand way, we often focus on one side of the game, and there are also parts that are purposely left longer to create a more immersive feeling, so it was hard to decide how to do the commentary.
However, I was happy to be able to voice the actions of my favorite characters that I’ve been watching since the first game!
–After watching the first season of “Gun Gale Online,” what is one thing that you felt was appealing about the series as a viewer?
Kishi: In my life, I also had some worries and complexes, and I immersed myself in the world of the internet (games). I felt that there was a place in the game where unique characters with the same emotions could be their true selves, or their ideal selves, and the expression of the expanding circle of people there really resonated with me. I also think it’s a wonderful work that lets you enjoy the thrill of a battle royale in an anime form.
— I think there are a lot of people who like FPS games these days. I would like to ask you to give a message to those game lovers who have not yet watched “Gun Gale Online.”
Kishi: Familiar guns appear, so I think you’ll be able to get into the anime right away. The rules for Battle Royale in particular are familiar in this day and age, and there are plenty of scenes where you’ll nod along and say, “Yes, yes, I know what the game looks like.” There are also rules unique to Gun Gale Online that aren’t in the game, so I hope you’ll check it out!
