Anticipation for this film is also building in Japan, and on the first day of its release, an opening day stage greeting was held with all the Japanese voice actors in attendance, including Otake Shinobu (as Sadness), Tabe Mikako (as Shinpai), Yokomizo Naho (as Riley), Murakami (Magical Lovely/Embarrassed), Koshimizu Ami (as Joy), Komatsu Yuka (as Disgust), Ochiai Koji (as Scaredy), Urayama Jin (as Anger) and Hanazawa Kana (as Nicer).
The official report from the exciting event has arrived, with participants sharing their feelings on the day that the film, which has been making adults cry all over the world, was finally released in Japan, anecdotes from filming, and their favorite parts of the film.
Pixar, which has produced many masterpieces to date, presents a new film that will move adults to tears, depicting the “Story of Riley” that everyone has experienced, set in a world of colorful and unique “emotions” that exist within you.
As soon as the film was released nationwide today, Thursday, August 1st, social media is already flooded with emotional comments such as, “I can’t watch this without crying! It reminded me of myself when I was younger,” “I went to see it with my kids, but I ended up crying…! I cried as an adult!” and “It’s a movie that you’ll want to watch over and over again when you’re hitting a wall in life!”
Appearing before the large crowd of eagerly awaiting fans who had flocked to the venue were nine gorgeous Japanese voice actors: Otake Shinobu as Kanashimi in a long blue dress, Tabe Mikako as Shinpai in a gorgeous orange dress, Yokomizo Naho as Riley in a cute white outfit, Magical Lovely’s Murakami as Embarrassed in a pink set, Koshimizu Ami as Yorokobi in a bright yellow outfit, Komatsu Yuka as Mukamuka in a lovely green skirt, Ochiai Koji as Bibiri in a black suit with a purple tie, Urayama Jin as Ikari who said it was the first time in her life she had worn a red outfit, and Hanazawa Kana as Iiner who appeared in a green and black dress with a floral pattern.
Welcomed with thunderous applause, Otake said, “I’m grateful that you chose this film in this heat. I’m sure you’ll be watching it soon, and I hope you’ll laugh and cry to your heart’s content.” Tabe also sent a message to the audience, saying, “I was happy to be involved in this film, and I’m very happy that everyone can finally see it today. I hope you enjoy it.”
The film depicts deep themes such as the “storm of emotions” that everyone has experienced at least once in their lives, and “does joy disappear when you become an adult?”, and in response to the comments that adults can relate to the film, Murakami said, “Does that mean everyone thinks it’s their story?! I think this is a story filled with my own “things that I can relate to”… Perhaps it’s the same for all of you?”, showing a look of surprise that made the audience laugh. He continued, “I thought that my own wonderful memories would be made into a movie! But I think everyone can relate, so I hope you enjoy it.” Tabe also responded to Murakami’s comments by saying, “I thought it was my story, but I was surprised to find out it was Murakami’s story!” Although Megumi showed many laughs, she revealed her feelings while adding about the film’s appeal, saying, “I was so overwhelmed during the dubbing that I couldn’t watch it calmly, but when I saw the finished product, I really felt like it was a story I had experienced. I’m an adult now, but like Riley, I live my life with so many different emotions, and it felt like I was looking at myself. I think it’s a movie that will reach everyone’s hearts.” Otake also shared her impressions of the film, saying, “I think all nine emotions exist for the sake of joy. It’s a movie that makes you think honestly that humans are born to be happy, and that life will continue to be a joyous one. That’s why I think you’ll end up crying at the end.”
Yokomizo, who plays the main character Riley in this film and is actually of the same generation as the character, explained the points of empathy that are unique to his generation, saying, “I think there are many works that everyone can relate to, but this is the first work that I have ever seen in my life that I can relate to so much.It’s a work that can be sympathized with by people of my generation as well as adults.”
In addition, the Japanese dubbed version of the film has received many rave reviews on social media, with a video of the Japanese version posted on Disney’s official social media accounts receiving a whopping 710,000 likes, and comments from all over the world. When the film became a hot topic, the cast members on stage looked a mixture of surprise and joy!
一作品目から参加している小松はアフレコについて「（前作は）9年前にアフレコをしてたんですけど、我々はそこから年を重ねているので『声大丈夫かな？』と思ったのですが、始まってみたらなんてことない！思い出してすごくすごく楽しくやらせてもらって、何の問題もありませんでした！」と前作から9年経ったことを振り返りつつ、役との再会に笑顔を見せ、続く落合は「僕は、（小松）由佳ちゃんと逆で、最初に映像を見て『なんか自分がやりたいように出来ないな』と思ったらオリジナルの声優さんが変わられてたんですね。なので前やったことと今回の整合性というか、調和させる着地点を見つけるのが難しかったなと思いました」とプロならではの視点で苦労した点を語り、浦山は「前回は文字通りイカリ爆発で、ライリーを家出させたりしてしまって本当に反省しています。今回はヨロコビを励ましたりして、少しライリーに貢献しているかなと思ってホッとしております」と切り出して場内をくすりと笑わせた。
大竹もアフレコはスムーズだったようで「あっという間の9年でしたが、カナシミのキャラクターが私の中に残っていて、アフレコもすぐ出来ました。本当に憎めないキャラクターなので大好きです」と話し、担当するキャラクターへの愛情を滲ませた。
本作から参加している小清水は「プレッシャーを感じて、”シンパイ”がすごく前に出るような状態だったんですけど、大切に演じさせていただきました。」とヨロコビを演じた際の気持ちを明かし、花澤は「感情自体を演じるというなかなかない機会だったので、めちゃくちゃ難しかったです。」と独特の世界観を担う“感情”を演じる苦労を明かしつつ、自身が演じた“イイナー”について「”イイナー”っていう気持ちって大人になるにつれて、人に隠したくなっちゃう感情だと自分では思ってたんですけど、今回演じていたら『なんて純粋な気持ちだったんだろう！』と気が付いて、自分の“イイナー”も認めてあげなきゃな、と思いながらアフレコをしていました」とアフレコ時に本作から感じ取った思いを振り返った。
続けて横溝は「ライリーはこの９つの感情のすべてに、どんどん感情が変わっていくので、その感情の起伏をたくさん表現するのが難しかったんですけど…休憩の合間に大竹さんがスタジオに差し入れをしてくださって、そのパンを食べたらびっくりするくらい美味しくて！あの時はありがとうございました」とアフレコ時の大竹の気遣いが感じられる貴重なエピソードも明かしてくれた。
アフレコ自体が初めての経験だったという村上は「ものすごいドキドキして、『怒られたりしないかな…』という”シンパイ”な気持ちもありました。でも、『呻いてください』と言われて自分なりに呻いてみたら、『それです』と言われたんですね。普段の自分でいけたな、というのが本当に助かりました」と役作りに成功したことを明かし、多部は「あらゆる感情のチームワークを引っ掻き回すキャラクターなので、なるべく愛らしくチャーミングに見えるキャラクターになったらいいなという気持ちでアフレコしました」と担当する役への思いを語った。
そして、本作は勉強やスポーツを頑張る明るくて元気いっぱいの女の子、主人公・ライリーが人生の転機となる高校入学を控え“思春期警報”が鳴り響き、ライリーの頭の中で彼女の幸せを子供の頃から見守るヨロコビ、カナシミ、ムカムカ、ビビリ、イカリの感情たちの前に、＜大人の感情＞シンパイ、イイナー、ダリィ、ハズカシが現れるところから始まる。
監督を務めたケルシー・マンも“この映画は、自分自身を受け入れることをテーマにしています”と話すように、観終わるとどんな感情も宝物になる本作のお気に入りポイントについて登壇者がそれぞれ披露。
先日の来日スペシャルイベントで監督ケルシー・マンらとも対面している大竹は「４年半という長い月日をかけてワンカットワンカット作って、それを彼らが誇らしげに、そして幸福そうに『この映画素晴らしいよね』と言っている姿が忘れられないので…全部見どころなんですけど」と一つには絞り切れない様子を見せながら「ラストのシーンですね。言えないんですけど、大好きです」とこれから作品を観る観客を前に、濁しながらもお気に入りポイントをアピール。一方多部は「どんな感情も必要で、どの感情も色んな感情を補い合って一人の人間が出来ていくというのがとても感動するポイントで皆さんの心に留まるんじゃないかなと思っています。」、横溝は「ライリーは前作以上に表情が豊かになっていて、そこを見ていただきたいです」、小清水は「ほかの人間キャラクターの感情も個性豊かで見どころのひとつだなと思っています」とそれぞれに本作のお気に入りポイントを明かしていった。
小松からは「私個人的なポイントは、初めてムカムカちゃんの“推し”が登場します！“推し”も楽しみにご覧下さい」と気になる一言、浦山は自らのシーンではなくライリーのシーンをあげ「追い詰められたライリーが何度か自分に呟く言葉があって、それがもうドキッとしたんですね。今日ご覧になられる皆さんがその言葉をどう受け取られるのかなというのがすごく楽しみです」とポイントを語り、花澤は最近のオリンピックの盛り上がりにも触れながら「ライリーがめちゃくちゃ頑張るシーンがあるんですけど、それを感情たちがみんなで応援してるところが今の状況と重なって。」と注目して欲しいシーンをあげた。
それぞれが本作の魅力を交えたお気に入りポイントを発表し終わると、最後に登壇者を代表して、多部と大竹が挨拶。
多部は「この作品に参加させていただけてとても嬉しかったですし、もっともっと今ここで話したいことがたくさんあるんですけども、とにかく今はもう皆さんに早く観ていただきたいので私たちは本当にもう、すぐ帰ります（笑）」とはやる気持ちを抑えきれないコメントをすると会場が笑いに包まれた。
大竹も「じゃあ私も早口でしゃべります」とその流れに乗るようにして更なる笑いを誘いつつも「夏休みの思い出というよりも、人生の思い出の中の一つになるような良い映画になっていると思うので、ぜひ楽しんでいってください。今日はありがとうございました。」と日本版声優を代表してあたたかいメッセージでしっかりとイベントを締めくくった。
そして、本作の公開初日を祝い、会場が一体となった掛け声とともにカラフルなテープが会場を舞うと、キャスト一同もこの日一番の晴れやかな笑顔を見せた。華やかで色鮮やかに装飾された会場は大いに盛り上がり、イベントは大盛況のうちに幕を閉じた。
