JO1 member Kimata Shoya will be appearing in this film. Kimata will be playing the main character of the Paris chapter, Dupont, a character deeply involved in the story.
Kimata-san will also be appearing as one of the main characters, Iko Ken, in the movie “Run for Money: The Movie,” which will be released on Friday, July 19th. We asked him about his impressions of appearing in the anime “Run for Money: The Movie,” and “Run for Money: The Movie,” as well as what the highlights of the film are.
–Kimata-san, do you usually watch anime? Also, what is your favorite anime?
Kimata Shoya (hereinafter Kimata): Yes! I’ll watch it! I especially love Code Geass and have watched it three times already. Even after watching all of it, I still cry every time I watch it (laughs).
–You love it so much that even knowing the story you still cry (laughs).
Kimata: A friend of mine from elementary school also likes Code Geass, and we watched the movie together in a watch party on Amazon Prime Video.
–Kimata-san, please tell us how you felt when you were given the role of “Dupont” in “Run for Money.”
Kimata: I heard about “Dupont” after I finished filming the movie “Run for Money”. I had the opportunity to work as a voice actor, so I thought it might have led to an anime job, and I was very happy. “Run for Money” was a big hit with my generation, and everyone at school was imitating it.
-Do you imitate them at school?
Kimata: Yes. At school, we used to play Run for Money. We would say things like, “Did you see the show yesterday?” (laughs). I think this is quite common among our generation. I’m very honored to be involved in such content now!
–It must be great to be able to work on content that you’ve been playing for a while.
Kimata: I was very happy to be able to appear in the anime “Run for Money.” What’s more, the character designs for “Run for Money” were done by Takeshi Okano, who also worked on “Hell Teacher Nube,” which I loved.
-Do you also like “Hell Teacher Nube”?
Kimata: Yes. I love it. When I was in kindergarten, I rented the anime from a video rental store and watched the whole series. Another memory I have of the anime is the “human body model” episode. That episode was so scary that I was constantly stunned until I was in the second grade of elementary school. Of course, I’ve gotten over it now (laughs).
–Please introduce the character “Dupont” that you play. What kind of person is he?
Kimata: We’ve only just started recording, so I don’t understand everything yet, but he’s a character with a strong sense of justice. Dupont’s research, which he thought would benefit others, ends up being misused by someone! He feels guilty, thinking that he is one of the causes of the strange phenomena that are occurring.
What do you like about DuPont?
Kimata: I like how he proudly explains the weapon he developed. Dupont is a serious, enthusiastic researcher, and a person who can act straightforwardly to benefit others. When I recommend the things I like to others, I tend to talk about them a little proudly (laughs). I think I may be in a similar state of mind to Dupont.
–You’re a perfect fit for the role since you have some similarities! So, what do you pay attention to when acting?
Kimata: We’ve only recorded a few episodes so far, so I can’t say much about my acting… But, right now, the thing I’m most careful about is “not to catch a cold.”
I rarely catch a cold and almost never get a sore throat. However, I can’t let my guard down, so I try not to do anything too extreme. Recently, I’ve been getting voice acting jobs, so I’m working on improving myself so that I can do the work.
-Was there anything you learned while dubbing?
