In addition, a concert featuring Sanrio characters and the entire cast will be held on Sunday, November 24th!
To celebrate the release of the album, Animate Times will be delivering interviews with the cast for 12 consecutive days. This is the 11th installment, and it features Teru Makishima, who sings “Greedy Greedy” [Kuromi]. He talked about his memories with Sanrio characters and his thoughts on this project.
–How did you feel when you heard about doing an album of Sanrio character song covers?
Hikaru Makishima (hereinafter referred to as Makishima): I never imagined that I would be singing a song for a Sanrio character, so I was surprised, but I was also very happy when I heard about the opportunity.
–Please tell us about your memories of Sanrio characters.
Makishima: When I went to Sanrio Puroland with my family, I often participated in the parade wearing a “Bad Badtz-Maru” costume! I remember going there many times and taking pictures with all the characters and participating in the parade.
──Have you ever used Sanrio goods yourself?
Makishima: Yes. At the time, I loved “Bad Badtz-Maru” and “Kero Kero Keroppi” goods.
— “Bad Badtz-Maru” is popular among boys, isn’t it?
Makishima: That’s right. When you’re young, it’s hard to appreciate cute characters, so you tend to like boyish characters. But when you become an adult, you realize the good points of cute characters and start to like them, which I think is the appeal of Sanrio characters.
–Are there any characters other than your own that you’re interested in?
Makishima: Since I got this job, I’ve been watching “Onegai My Melody” every day.
I’m hooked on the anime’s unique plot development and surreal dialogue, which are really interesting. I especially like Keiichi Hiiragi’s slightly sexy scenes.
–What do you think are similar to the characters you play?
Makishima: It may not be that they look alike, but I wanted to make my own “rakkyo” and posted a video of me pickling “rakkyo” on a fan site two or three years ago. So I feel like it was fate that I ended up in charge of “Kuromi”, whose favorite food is rakkyo.
