The three shows attracted a total of 10,000 people, and the “MAMORU MIYANO LIVE TOUR 2024-2025” was announced, which will be held in five locations across Japan from December this year to January next year. The official report of the June 8th Tokyo Garden Theater performance has arrived, so let’s share it here.
The audience was silent before the start of the show, and there was a sense of tension in the air. When the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra (Kanagawa Philharmonic) performed the Overture “Beautiful Life” under the direction of Nobuaki Nakata, a rich sound spread across the room, and Miyano, dressed in a blue suit, appeared to a huge round of applause.
“…To You” gradually builds up an uplifting feeling from the clear, high-pitched vocals, and the velvety sound of the orchestra and the moist, lustrous texture of Miyano’s voice are a perfect match.
Next, in the ballad “REFRAIN,” for which she wrote the lyrics, her warm voice combines with the glittering sound to create a sad world. She sings “Santou-ka,” which starts with a gentle piano melody, and in the ballad “Encore,” which is also an original with a grand orchestral arrangement, the lyrics “Because this is still an important place” convey her feelings for the fans who are spending this time together today.
“Identity” started quietly with flute, strings and harp, and Miyano sang with all his might, and the dynamic sound of the orchestra and the clapping of the audience all came together to create a heated atmosphere. “HOW CLOSE YOU ARE” drew me right into its worldview from the intro.
The sad lyrics depicting the bond “No matter how far apart we are, you are by my side,” the intimate melody, and Miyano’s gentle singing are accentuated by the sound of the orchestra. The deep string sounds in the outro extend the afterglow. The main part ends with the popular ballad “MOONLIGHT,” a heart-wrenching song with rich emotion. The delicate sound of the orchestra, including the graceful sounds of the interlude, beautifully colors the world of the song.
There was no MC in the first half, and the performers stoically exposed themselves, weaving together the wonderful sounds and singing of the orchestra.
The second part started with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra performing Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition – Promenade”. The orchestra delivered a spectacular performance of this famous piece that everyone has heard at least once. Then Miyano appeared in a black tuxedo and performed “EVER LOVE”. The positive melody and song were bathed in a dazzling light by the positive sound of the orchestra.
And finally, Miyano took over the MC. “It was my first orchestra concert, so I was nervous,” he confessed, and explained the meaning behind the concert title, “I wanted to face the music myself and deliver the real thing = ‘AUTHENTICA’ music.” “Traumerei” has an impressive gentle melody, and the whispering voice, high-pitched vocals, and soft arrangement come together to spread the emotion.
After expressing his gratitude to his good friend Jin Nakamura, who produced the concert, he asked the audience, “Do you know what day it is today, June 8th, when the orchestra concert is being held?” He then requested, “Everyone please!”, and then he eagerly joked, “It’s the rainy season!” He started over and said, “Today is my birthday (laughs),” which drew a huge round of applause. The atmosphere was returning to the usual “Mamorai” live show. “I’ve grown up quite a bit… I’m 41 now. Today, I’m going to present you with a new song I wrote for this concert,” he said, which elicited loud cheers from the audience.
He performed his new song “AUTHENTICA” which he created with Jin Nakamura. The dramatic intro gives the feeling that it is a song that cannot be listened to without crying. “I put what I’m feeling into the lyrics,” he said, carefully singing every word of the heart-warming ballad. “Are you crying? Are you okay?” he asked the emotionally-charged audience, and then he said, “Let’s sing the birthday song together,” and the audience all stood up and sang “Happy Happy Birthday” together, following the choreography. Words of “Congratulations!” rained down on Miyano on stage from the audience. Everyone was enjoying the happy atmosphere.
“The Birth” is the theme song for an anime with a serious plot, and is a rock number with an intense rhythm that strongly reflects the worldview of the anime. The orchestral sound enhances the thrill, and Miyano’s singing is conveyed with passion. The last number is “LAST DANCE”. It is a fast-paced, danceable number with a pleasant jazz arrangement. Miyano’s singing also creates a bouncy rhythm. The ending is a spectacular performance that can be called the climax. The applause continues, and when Miyano appears again, a voice of “Mamo!” rings out from the audience.
The encore song was “Transparent”. The gentle arrangement, performance, and soft singing created a peaceful time. “This live performance was held in a different atmosphere than usual. It was a very rare experience in my career,” he said, “It was a birthday party with everyone who was dressed up. It looks like there’s a surprise cake (laughs).” With the orchestra playing in the background, he welcomed the cake himself, exclaiming, “No way, I’m so happy! (laughs),” and the audience erupted in laughter.
「吹き消して～」の大合唱でケーキのロウソクを吹き消す。そして知らぬ間にケーキのクリームが衣装の裾とパンツにつくというハプニングに会場は大爆笑だ。「すごい高いスーツなのに」と、慌ててステージ袖に戻る宮野。マイクを通して聞こえる舞台袖でのスタイリストとのやりとりは完全に“マモライ”のいつものノリになっている。オーケストラのメンバーも全員笑顔だ。「サプライズケーキってこういうことだったんだ(笑)。甘い歌に行きましょう」と「Kiss×Kiss」へ。投げキスの雨を客席に降らせる。オーケストラの演奏がさらに気持ちをアゲてくれ、ハッピーな気持ちにしてくれる。
「いつもコンサートが終わると淋しい思いが込み上げてくるけど、今日はハッピーな気持ちで帰ってもらいたいから」と、今年の冬に開催される全国ライヴツアーの開催を発表。大歓声と拍手の中「15周年をここで締めくくる。自分の表現と向き合った後、ここから何が生まれるか。だから次のツアーは絶対観に来た方がいい」と、次のツアーの成功を約束した。
さらにこのコンサートについての感じていることを素直に語る。「これまで自分が作ってきた音楽を、オーケストラの皆さんが一音一音大切に奏でてくれたことに感動しました。大勢で合わせるというのは相当の熱量、集中力が必要。そしてそうやってできあがったものを今日新たな表現として一緒に届けてくださったことが幸せでした。音楽を作るということの素晴らしさを、15周年のタイミングで改めて感じさせていただけたのは財産」と感無量の様子だった。
そして「これからの自分が新たにどんな表現を見つけることができるのか、自分自身に期待したい。自信を持って確実に一歩一歩進んで、皆さんに楽しい時間をもっともっと届けることができるようにしたい」と決意を新たにしていた。
「新しいキャリアのスタートにしたい」と、デビュー曲「Discovery」を披露。ずっと歌い続けている大切な曲を歌う宮野を見て、15年前アーティストとしてのキャリアをスタートさせた時、デビュー曲をフルオーケストラをバックに歌っている姿を想像しただろうか——ふとそんなことを考えてしまった「Discovery」は、瑞々しさと叙情的な部分はさらに深くなり、さらに輝きが増していた。
オーケストラの演奏により、改めてその楽曲のメロディの美しさが剥き出しになり、15年という時間で磨かれた表現力で、歌がより芳醇になったことを感じさせてくれるコンサートとなった。そして宮野真守という稀代のエンターテイナーの“次”に更に期待してほしい。
