Today, July 14th, is France’s Bastille Day, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14th, 1789, which marked the beginning of the French Revolution. To commemorate the tumultuous French Revolution, the setting of the story and the struggles that Oscar and Antoinette fought to survive, seven art setting illustrations that will appear in the film have been released!
The art design drawings that have been released this time include the Palace of Versailles where Marie Antoinette lives, the Jarjayes family home where Oscar lives with her family, as well as the Place de la Concorde, a historic site in Paris that is closely related to the French Revolution, and the Opera House, the venue of the masked ball where Oscar, Marie Antoinette, and Fersen meet.
Not only the gorgeous locations of “Tokimeki,” which symbolize a beautiful era, but also some of the settings for important, emotional scenes were unveiled.
★Nakamura Gouki, the art director of this work who has worked on Inu-Oh'' and the
Berserk” trilogy, talked about his particular artistic settings.
──What were your particular concerns and difficulties?
Nakamura: “The lavish decorations of the buildings that adorned the aristocratic society of the time, including the Palace of Versailles, can only be expressed by drawing in detail and with great care, so that was something I was particular about and also something I struggled with.”
Points to pay attention to
Nakamura: “We researched as many sources as possible for the exterior and interior of the Palace of Versailles, and recreated the unique interior decorations and the atmosphere of the gardens, so I hope you will pay attention to that. The city of Paris was one of the director’s particular concerns, but we have also tried to express the changing atmosphere as the revolution approached, so I hope you will pay attention to that.”
To be released in the New Year of 2025!
Oscar François de Jarjayes , the heir to the Shogunate and a beautiful woman who dresses like a man and was raised as a “son”.
Marie Antoinette, the noble and elegant Queen who came to France from neighboring Austria to marry into the country. Andre Grandier, a commoner who is Oscar’s servant and childhood friend. Hans Axel von Fersen, a handsome and intelligent Swedish Count. They meet in the glorious city of Versailles in the late 18th century, France, and while they are at the mercy of the times, they each live out their own beautiful destinies.
