Starting with this week’s episode airing on Sunday, July 14th, “THE ALFEE” will be in charge of the ending theme! The Shinkansen that “THE ALFEE” will be in charge of is the Sanyo Shinkansen “Kodama”. The title of the ending theme song, which has a Kodama motif, has been decided to be “KO. DA. MA.”!

They met on the Meiji Gakuin University campus and formed a group in 1973. They made their debut the following year on August 25, 1974 with the single “Natsu Shigure.”
In 1983, nine years after their debut, the single “Merry Ann” became a big hit. Since then, they have been active as one of the leading bands in the Japanese music scene. In March 2014, all three members graduated from Meiji Gakuin University with honors. In 2017, they won the Planning Award at the 59th Japan Record Awards under the name “The KanLeKeeZ”.
In addition, on December 24, 2018, they were recognized by the Guinness World Records® as the “Most theme songs by the same artist for the television broadcast of the same international sporting event” for having sung 31 theme songs for Kansai TV’s “Osaka International Women’s Marathon” from 1987 to 2018.
With the release of the double A-side single “Hagane no Kishi Q/Never Say Die” in May 2023, they achieved their 57th consecutive top 10 ranking in the charts.
Meanwhile, they continued to be active with concert tours and events, and had successful overseas performances in New York in 1998 and Berlin the following year in 1999. In the summer of 1986, they became the first Japanese artist to attract 100,000 people in one night at the outdoor event “TOKYO BAYAREA” held at the Tokyo Bay No. 13 reclaimed land.
The total number of live shows reached 2,889 at the end of the “2023 Winter Genesis of New World Final Wind Era Winter” performance.

For me, a bullet train fanatic, this project to include the name of a bullet train in the title was a dream come true. ALFEE was asked to sing “Kodama,” so we made full use of our skills, including the chorus, to make the song resonate with everyone’s hearts, and I think it turned out to be a song full of speed.
The annual 50th anniversary spring tour begins in April and we look forward to traveling around the country together on the Shinkansen while listening to their new songs.
