──Please tell us how you felt when it was decided that you would appear in “Omuroya”.
Nao Higashiyama (hereinafter referred to as Higashiyama): Many female voice actors of my generation auditioned for “Yuruyuri,” but I hadn’t, and at the time I thought, “That’s great, I want to take it too.” That’s what I was thinking. This time I auditioned for Omuroya'' and got the role of Ai-chan. I felt as if I had transcended time to appear on Yuruyuri,” and I was thrilled that something like this could happen.
──How did you approach the character of Ai Miwa?
Higashiyama: Nadeshiko, Megumi, Ai, and Miho have different personalities. That relationship is real and interesting. I’m curious as to what led them to become friends, but when I look back on my school days, there were times when people who were similar got together, and times when people with different personalities got together and it was fun. Friends are like that, and these four have a similar atmosphere. Among them, Ai seems to be a gentle and honorable student. She’s the type of person who lets the atmosphere flow, so she valued a soothing atmosphere as she performed. She tried to act softly and naturally.
──Please give us your impressions after finishing the dubbing for “Omuroya dear friends”.
Higashiyama: What I particularly noticed this time was that Ai was the one who started talking most of the time. I think Megumi, the energetic and teased character, is also a mood maker, but Ai may be the key person who creates conversation. He is a kid who is good at finding fun things to do, and I felt like he was very observant of his surroundings.
──Nadeko’s lover might be among them.
Higashiyama: Since the identity of our lover is kept hidden from us for a long time, we tend to get curious about the slightest movement of his gaze or a momentary cut, and end up reading too much into the story. In the previous work, Omuroya Dear Sisters'', there was a scene where Ai started the conversation by saying, Why don’t you go to this place? It’s a shop that I found with Nadeshiko,” and I got the impression that she and Nadeshiko were talking together. remain. But after that, Nadeshiko starts messing with Megumi, and then Miho makes a slightly more in-depth remark, saying, “Nadeko is the type of person who’s more worth messing with.” Even though it’s a normal conversation, it all sounds suspicious (lol). Nadeshiko’s phone calls have a calm, mature air about her, so I’m predicting that Miho or Ai will be the ones who can bring that out.
──How do you view Nadeshiko like that, Higashiyama-san?
Higashiyama: She’s usually cool, but her voice was sweet on the phone, which made me feel like she’s a girl in love! It’s amazing that they keep it a secret at school, but I guess they’re being careful not to damage the relationship between these four people. She values not only her relationship with her lover, but also the relationships she has with her four friends. I think she is a very loving girl, as well as towards her sisters.
──Are there any characters other than Ai that you are interested in?
Higashiyama: I love Sakurako, who is like a surprise box and you can’t predict what she’s going to say. In Dear Sisters,'' I thought I loved Sakurako when she left the house even though she had a fever and said, Okay, I’m going to go see Sunflower!” It seems like a heartless scene for a moment, but he was actually going to ask Himawari for the recipe for egg porridge. She has a smug look on her face, but I thought it was cool of her to act quickly for her younger sister. When her friend, Nadeshiko, came to her room, Hanako said things like She seemed like a nice person,'' and She was beautiful,” but she suddenly kissed her lips. I also like how it stretches (lol). I thought Sakurako was amazing at doing something that an elementary school boy would do, and Namori-sensei was amazing at coming up with something like this.
──The ending theme “Patchwork Etcetra!” was sung by four high school students.
東山：本当に4人が会話しているみたいな、耳に残る中毒性のある楽曲です。個性バラバラな4人が、楽しく会話をしているようだけど、ちょっと話題がずれているという、女の子のあるあるな会話をパッチワークに例えているんですね。テンポも良くてコロコロとしていて可愛い楽曲になっているので、映画の最後にまたキュンとしちゃうと思います。
──『大室家』2作を通してどんな魅力を感じましたか。
東山：ちょっと見栄を張ったり不器用だったりするところも含め、女の子たちの可愛さがいっぱい詰まっているところが魅力だと思います。誰もがお互いを思い合って、気持ちを言葉にしていますよね。前作では撫子がうたた寝している妹たちに毛布をかけて、じーっとそれを見守っていたり。櫻子が「ぎゅーしよ」って言うところも、まっすぐな愛情が伝わってきて心が温かくなりました。櫻子のためにカレーを作る花子が、櫻子の好みに合わせて隠し味に蜂蜜を入れてあげるところもよかったな。日常の中で見られる愛情や思いやりに心が癒されますよね。
──『大室家 dear friends』を楽しみにしてくれているみなさんにメッセージをお願いします！
東山：『dear friends』というタイトルだけあって、撫子の仲良し4人組のシーンがたくさん出てきますし、撫子の恋人の考察もよりはかどると思いますね。前作同様、短い時間ながらもギュギュッとエピソードが詰まっています。『ゆるゆり』シリーズや『大室家』を愛してくださっているみなさんにいっぱい楽しんでいただけたら嬉しいです！
