Anime / Manga

“One Piece on Ice” is the first ice show in the history of the show to feature Japan’s top figure skaters playing characters accompanied by lines from the voice actors of the TV anime “One Piece,” and embarking on a great adventure on the ice with the speed and dynamism that only skating can provide.

The Alabasta arc, which will be the subject of this performance, is a highly popular episode among fans that was made into a TV anime from 2001 to 2002.

Set in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, which is on the brink of collapse due to a conspiracy by the mysterious secret society Baroque Works, the epic story of Princess Vivi and the Straw Hat Pirates, led by Luffy, rising up to save the country, will be expressed through spectacular battle scenes with group dancing, projection mapping and light effects.

Honda’s role as Vivi is the princess of the Kingdom of Alabasta, where the story takes place. Upon learning of the plot to take over Alabasta by the secret criminal organization Baroque Works, she has the courage to stand up to it, and the heart to care for her people and cherish her friends more than anyone else.

Regarding playing Vivi again, Honda said, “Vivi is a girl who cares about her friends more than herself. Among them, I wanted to express the princess, who has both a strong will and a fragile side, and from the time of the premiere I wanted to act in a way that would reach every corner of the venue, with my facial expressions and body movements. I’m really looking forward to playing Vivi again in the re-run.”

At the premiere, she memorized all of her lines and performed in unison with the voice of Misa Watanabe, the voice actress for Vivi, moving many audience members. For her, it was her first experience to fully immerse herself in a character, and while there was trial and error, she practiced from early morning until late at night, saying, “I want people to see me not as ‘Honda Marin,’ but as ‘Vibi.'”

“Before the first performance, I was so nervous that my limbs were shaking. But when I got to the final performance in Nagoya, I saw the Straw Hat Crew lined up on the deck of the ship, and I remembered all the journey I’d had up until then, including the practice period, and I burst into tears,” she recalled. Looking ahead to the re-performance, she expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m happy to think that I’ll be able to experience that excitement again, and I’ll be ready to perform again.”

“One Piece on Ice: Episode of Alabasta” will be held on September 7th and 8th at LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY in Funabashi, Chiba, with two performances each day for a total of four performances. Advance reservations for tickets are being accepted until July 21st.

In addition, prior to that on July 9th, a special event will be held at 21 movie theaters across the country, where footage from last year’s performance will be screened. A screening of “2023 Performance Footage” will also be held, complete with stage greetings from Honda, as well as Uno Shoma, who plays Monkey D. Luffy, Mura Takato, who plays Crocodile, and Hongo Rika, who plays Mr. 2 Bon Clay.
