An advance screening was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly on Sunday, June 16th. Fukuyama Jun, who plays Ike, Tachibana Hina, who plays Sati, Itou Shizuka, who plays Cephiro, Iwami Manaka, who plays Dairokuten, and Tone Kentaro, who plays Jiron, took to the stage for a lively and entertaining cast talk.
An advance screening of episodes 1 and 2 of the TV anime “The Demon King’s Strongest Magician Was a Human,” with cast talk, which will begin airing on Wednesday, July 3rd, was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo on Sunday, June 16th.
Appearing on stage were Jun Fukuyama, who plays Ike, Hina Tachibana, who plays Sati, Shizuka Itou, who plays Cephiro, and Manaka Iwami, who plays Dairokuten. The moderator was Kentaro Tone, who plays Jiron. The cast talk was a little different from the serious work, and was lively and fun.
After the screening of episodes 1 and 2, Tone-san gave a speech, and the other cast members also came on stage. They started off by talking about their impressions of episode 1.
Apparently, this time the dubbing took place when the footage was almost already completed, and Fukuyama commented, “It’s been a while since the last dubbing, so it felt quite emotional.”
Iwami said, “(Dairokuten) was a fresh role and I was excited about it.”
At that point, Ito commented, “What a gap!”
Dairokuten is the king of the demons who leads the Demon King’s army and is the strongest being. It seems that this comment was made because of a very different atmosphere from Iwami-san’s calm tone, and the audience seemed to understand. Iwami-san was intimidated by the atmosphere, but he spoke enthusiastically, saying, “I want to perform well.”
What was impressive about the second episode was Tachibana’s comment that “It’s the first time I’ve played a character who competes for a man.” She also said that she felt that Sati had become more feminine, influenced by Lilith, the succubus who loves Ike, and that the interaction between the cast members created a synergistic effect. She also seemed to be interested in the part where she called Jiron “ugly.”
Tone said, “In the Reiwa era…!” but ultimately settled on saying, “I guess it’s okay because Jiron doesn’t look human.”
Fukuyama, who was being fought over, drew laughter from the audience by saying, “I don’t feel bad about it!” However, in fact, Sati and Lilith are not the only ones competing for Ike.
“Jiron also loves Lord Ike,” Tone said, indicating his intention to join the competition for Lord Ike, showing just how popular Ike is.
Ms. Ito also expressed some concern that Lilith was also in charge of the sexy side, saying, “I thought that my position would be taken over.” However, she seemed to come to terms with the fact that Lilith is bright and sexy, and Cephiro is mature and sexy, so they were able to separate the roles.
In the following character introduction, each of them talked about their own character and their acting.
Fukuyama said that he acted with “a sense of menace (so that he wouldn’t be recognized as a human).” Tone seemed impressed by the way he acted differently when dealing with people who didn’t know he was human and when dealing with people who did, and Fukuyama happily commented, “You’re praising me!” In fact, until a few hours before, Fukuyama had thought Tone was a classmate, and it was revealed at the time of the screening that he was a junior, so it seems that the comment was made out of playfulness, but it was also a scene that gave the impression of a friendly exchange between a senior and a junior.
Regarding Sati, who will serve Ike, Tachibana commented, “Her facial expressions change all the time,” and “Even though she’s a slave, she has zero sense of caution.” Sati loves to eat, and in a meal scene that appears early on, it was impressive to see her gently tell him, as if he were a small child, “I want you to eat a lot.”
Ito-san’s character Cephiro is memorable for “loving destruction and only using big moves.” As the only demon who knows Ike’s true identity, Ito-san’s new interpretation of the character suggests that “he’s caught between being worried that the Demon King will find out and being a middle manager who has to do something to avoid it, so he resorts to sex appeal,” which drew laughter from the audience.
And while Dairokuten looks like a young girl, Iwami-san said, “I wanted to convey the aura of being defeated if you let your guard down (in the voice).” Iwami-san once again said, “I don’t have much in common with Dairokuten, but I wanted to play this character,” and the reason for this was, “I wanted to be loved, and it’s rare in life to have someone kneel down to me.”
そして利根さん演じるジロンは、「リアクション要因」「真剣だけどふざけた顔」が特徴と福山さん。利根さんからは「目がつぶらで口元もかわいらしい」と反論が。ただし、「心の声がダダ漏れなんじゃないかというレベルで叫んでいた」ことから、作中のコミカル要因だと感じていたとのことで、「皆さんに笑っていただけるように演じた」と語っていた。
実は利根さんは“ブタ鼻”を付けて司会に臨んだのだが、これは全部自分の意思やっていることだったそう。福山さん的には「ジロンは想像以上の活躍をする」そうなので、面白ビジュアルの彼がどんな活躍をしてくれるのかも楽しみにしよう。
ほかのキャラクターについては、アイクの育ての親・ロンベルク、リリス、そしてローズアリア王国の白薔薇騎士団団長・アリステアの話題が。ロンベルク役のチョーさんと福山さんは25年ぶりの親子役だったそうだが、チョーさんのアフレコ日に福山さんが病欠となってしまい、念願の再共演は叶わず……。福山さんもとても残念がっていた。
リリスについてキャスト陣の評価は「残念系セクシー」。伊藤さんは「すごく好き」なキャラクターで、特にジロンをライバル視してアイクを取り合うシーンや、セクシーなのに残念なところがたまらないとプッシュしていた。
リリスは福山さんの「インテリジェンスにパラメータが振られていないんですよ」という言葉がまさにピッタリのキャラクターなので、ぜひ放送でもチェックしてほしい。
また、アリステアについての評価は「キリッとしていて強そう」（立花さん）、「誇りを持った剣士」（伊藤さん）。それを聞いてか福山さんは「そういう人を惚れさせたい」とモテモテのアイクらしい一言をお見舞いし、ほかのキャストから「そういうアニメでしたっけ!?」とツッコまれていた。
また、アフレコについての話題では、ほぼ仮面を付けている福山さんに対し「口パクがなくてうらやましい！」と伊藤さん。福山さんは利根さんからも「アドリブ入れ放題でしたよね」と暴露され、「面白いジロンのためにこんな感じでアフレコしていたんです」と裏話をしてくれた。
その後公開された新PVは、福山さんが「包み隠さず盛り込むんですね」と語ったとおり、先々のエピソードの重要なシーンも見ることができた。
立花さんが「シリアスに見えてお笑いシーンもたくさんあるんですよね」と作品全体の魅力を語り、伊藤さんは「セフィーロがメインヒロインだったのかな？」とセフィーロ周りのシーンに注目。たくさんのキャラクターが登場することに対し「収録がやかましかったんですよ。相性が良すぎてアフレコ前に息切れするくらい（笑）」と福山さん。今回のトークでも見えたキャストの掛け合いの面白さは、どうやらアフレコでも変わらなかったようだ。
放送情報やCD情報、原作情報をなどのお知らせのあと、最後のメッセージがキャストから届けられた。
利根さん「和気あいあいの現場で、楽しく収録した思い出がたくさん詰まった作品です。毎回次が気になる怒濤の展開なので、皆さんと一緒に楽しみたいです」
石見さん「コミカルなシーンがあったかと思えばシリアスなシーンになったりと、見逃せない展開が待っています。ぜひどんどんSNSなどで作品を広めて、一緒に（作品を）盛り上げていけたらと思います」
伊藤さん「アイクがどうやって人と魔族の共生をしていくのかというシリアスな展開もあり、ジロンのブサイクって言ったりするような（笑）いろんなシーンが入り交じって、あっという間に駆け抜けてしまうのではないかと思います。セフィーロの色仕掛けがいつかアイクに通じること、そしてヒロインになれることも願っています」
立花さん「見ていただいた方にはバッチリ伝わっていると思いますが、サティはア……の子です（笑）。そんなサティがいろんなことを頑張ったり、アイク様に仕えていくうちに人として成長する姿や、癒しの空間をお届けできると思います。サティは戦いませんが、彼女の活躍も楽しみに待っていてくださったらうれしいです。個人的に、リリスさんとジロンがメインヒロインのライバルかなと思っていたのですが、今日セフィーロさんがライバルとして出現したので、負けない、メインヒロインはサティだと思いながら最後まで見てください」
福山さん「悪い気がしません（笑）。フルカラーの状態でアフレコを毎週させてもらえることが、改めてこんなに楽しいことなんだと感じられました。ちょうどみんなでアフレコをしていこう、通常のアフレコをしていこうという先陣を切った作品でもあります。一緒にセリフを作り、スタッフの方とひとつの作品を作ることの面白さを感じられました。それがひとつのセリフなどに熱量としてこもっていたらいいなと思って収録をさせていただきました。作品はできあがっているので、安心して見ていただけます。ぜひお近くの方にもお勧めいただいて、一緒に作品を共有していただけたら幸いです」
人間でありながら魔王軍に所属し、人間と魔族の共生を目指すアイク。そんな彼の願いは成就するのか。そしてアイクを巡るメインヒロイン争いは誰が勝利するのか（そんなエピソードがあるのか）。ぜひ放送で、確かめてみてほしい。
