What Ghibli film has the Ghibli food you want to try? Second place is “Spirited Away,” and first place is a film that features “simple yet delicious-looking” food…NEXER and Hachimenrokubi, a company that sells and wholesales commercial food ingredients and food products, conducted a survey on “Which Ghibli film features a Ghibli meal that you would like to try,” and the results have now been made public. Responses were received from 500 men and women across the country, with “Castle in the Sky” coming in first.

Coming in first was one of Ghibli’s greatest films , “Castle in the Sky,” which received 126 votes. Respondents’ comments included, “Laputa bread. It looks memorable and easy to make,” “I imagine there are a lot of famous and delicious looking dishes, like Laputa bread,” and “It’s bread with a fried egg on top. It was depicted as delicious.” Many people commented that the fried egg toast “Laputa Bread,” known as a representative “Ghibli meal,” was appealing, and it was praised for its simplicity yet deliciousness.

In second place was the masterpiece Spirited Away , which topped the Japanese box office for 20 years, with 116 votes. Respondents included comments such as “Rice balls. Because they have a simple taste and look delicious,” “It’s the food Chihiro’s parents devour. It’s filling and looks rich, so it whets the appetite,” and “I’d like to try the food that is served to the eight million gods.” A variety of dishes appear, and they all seem to have made an impression when paired with the scenes depicted in the film.

Coming in third was “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” an animated film based on a children’s book in 1989,with 65 votes. Respondents made comments such as, “The bread from Guchoki Bakery. The sight of all those freshly baked breads lined up is really appetizing,” “A chocolate cake for Kiki. It looks cute and is rich and delicious,” and “The herring pie looks like it’s been made with love and has a warm taste.” These were foods that make you want to eat just by remembering them.

Following that, in 4th place is “My Neighbor Totoro,” which features Satsuki’s bento, as well as Kanta’s grandmother’s rice balls and corn rice, and in 5th place is “Howl’s Moving Castle,” which is likely to bring to mind “Howl’s bacon and eggs” when speaking of this film. Also making the top 10 are “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind,” “Porco Rosso,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea,” and “The Wind Rises.”
