Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story, a manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump by Nobuhiro Watsuki from 1994 to 1999, is a huge hit that has been adapted into a TV anime, film, OVA, game, live-action film, musical, and many other media mixes. The TV anime aired in 1996, and is being adapted into a new anime in 2023.
Set in Japan in the early Meiji period, the story depicts the wandering Himura Kenshin, a former “strongest swordsman” who shocked people at the end of the Edo period, but who has strictly forbidden himself from killing people, as he throws himself into an unwanted battle with powerful foes to protect his friends and people.
The completed figures of “Kenshin Himura”, “Sanosuke Sagara” and “Hajime Saito” that have been released this time are fully supervised by the original author, Nobuhiro Watsuki, and will be released as part of Kotobukiya’s “ARTFX J Series.” Pre-orders are being accepted at AmiAmi and other hobby shops nationwide.
“ARTFX J Himura Kenshin” carefully recreates the figure using his reverse-blade sword and sheath to perform the two-stage sword-drawing technique “Sou Ryu Sen.” His hair and kimono flutter in sync with Kenshin’s movements, making him appear as if he is about to start moving. The price is 16,500 yen (tax included).
“ARTFX J Sagara Sanosuke” is posed swinging his fist powerfully. The veins visible on his fist and the wrinkles in his haori are all intricately detailed. The character “Evil” written on the back of his haori is what makes this figure stand out. The price is 16,500 yen (tax included).
“ARTFX J Saito Hajime” is sculpted to depict him unleashing his special move, the “Fang Thrust.” The left arm thrust out in front and the powerful right arm are depicted to give a sense of momentum. The depiction of his feet is also noteworthy. The price is 16,500 yen (tax included).
