The MBS/TBS Dramaism series “Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru” will begin airing on the MBS/TBS Dramaism slot (MBS: every Tuesday from 24:59/TBS: every Tuesday from 25:28).
The original work is the highly acclaimed “Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru” (original work by Fukuda Shinichi/published in Young Gangan, published by Square Enix), which has sold over 11 million copies in total, won numerous manga awards including the Next Manga Award in the Comics category (2019) and the Recommended Comics chosen by Booksellers Nationwide (2020), and was also a huge hit as an anime adaptation.

Gojo Niina (Nomura Kota) is a high school boy who is fascinated by Hina dolls and is training to become a “kashirashi” (head maker) who creates the faces of Hina dolls.
Although he was absorbed in making his favorite Hina dolls, he couldn’t fit in with his peers because his interests didn’t match those of the others. One day, a popular gal in his class, Kitagawa Marin (Nagase Riko), noticed his dexterous talent and asked him to make a cosplay costume for her as an extension of making costumes for Hina dolls.
Although Niina is confused, she is moved by Marin’s enthusiasm and decides to start making costumes. Marin loves anime, games, and manga, and enjoys cosplaying with all her heart, following her passion.
Influenced by Marin’s actions, Niina slowly begins to break out of her shell. The two are complete opposites in both body and mind, but the distance between them gradually closes as they work on making costumes…!?
A gal in the same class as Niina. A beautiful girl with an open personality, she also works as a magazine model. In fact, she loves anime, games, and manga, and wanted to cosplay as her favorite character, so she made her own costume, but she was too clumsy and it didn’t go very well. Then, she happened to come across Niina making a costume for a Hina doll in the clothing lab, and asked her to make a cosplay costume for herself. Through their cosplay activities, she deepens her friendship with Niina.

When I first read the original work, I thought it was an impressive piece because of Niina’s straightforwardness and Marin’s charm.
When I met the director, he told me that he wanted to maintain the distance between the two of us.
Although they seem to be complete opposites at first glance, they also have similarities, and I would like to carefully depict how these two characters change through cosplay. Although Marin has a flashy appearance, she is a wonderful girl with a delicate heart, so I would like to enjoy photographing her.

In the original work, Marin is innocent, cheerful, and strong-willed, while Niina is shy but earnest, innocent, and always hardworking. Although they have different personalities, they are both completely devoted to the things they love. The innocent and pure interactions between these two characters were incredibly cute and funny, and made my heart flutter.
And I was reminded once again of the importance of acknowledging that you like the things you like.
