Comments from Sakura Ayane and Fukuen Misato have arrived ahead of the 7th season of “My Hero Academia”, “A Girl’s Ego”, which will air on October 5th!The comic series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide! The hugely popular comic “My Hero Academia” (commonly known as “Hiroaka”) by Kohei Horikoshi was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” (published by Shueisha). The seventh season of the TV anime has been airing since May 2024.

The 20th episode of the 7th season (158th episode overall), “The Girl’s Ego”, which will be aired on Saturday, October 5th, is a notable episode in which the main characters from both the hero and villain roles, Ochako Uraraka and Himiko Toga, face off against each other.

In preparation for the broadcast, comments have arrived from the two main characters of this series, Sakura Ayane, who plays Ochako, and Fukuen Misato, who plays Toga!

★The drama of two people who form one of the important points of the story of My Hero Academia, “The Girl’s Ego,” will be broadcast on October 5th. Toga’s idea of “normal” is not accepted by society, and after his important friend is killed, he seeks revenge as a hero. Rather than rejecting her, Ochako tries to understand her “normal” even as she points a blade at him. What are the thoughts of Sakura-san and Fukuen-san, who played these two characters…?

–How did you feel when you read the story of Season 7, Episode 20 (No. 158), “The Girl’s Ego,” in the original manga?

Sakura Ayane, voice of Ochako Uraraka (hereinafter, Sakura): I had imagined it in the back of my mind as a day to come, but when Horikoshi-sensei’s drawing confronted me as a reality, I was stunned and could only shed a mess of tears.

Positive and negative feelings were swirling inside me, but I still couldn’t think that it would have been better if I had never met her. I was simply grateful for My Hero Academia and for meeting Toga Himiko-chan.

Fukuen Misato, voice of Toga Himiko (hereinafter referred to as Fukuen): The ending couldn’t have been more wonderful, and I was overwhelmed as a reader, even more so than as Toga’s voice actor.

I have often wondered over the past few years whether it is possible for Toga to atone for her sins and live in society without hurting anyone, but doing so would mean forcing her into the framework of “the majority’s normality” that has continued to torment her…I’m sure some of you already know this, but for those who haven’t, I would be delighted if you could watch the anime to find out how these girls live their lives.

–What were you thinking about before the recording, and what were your feelings on the day?

Sakura: I felt like I was being strangled with a silk scarf and wished that the dubbing for this episode would never come, but at the same time, I also felt a sense of mission that I absolutely had to help these girls move forward in their current suffering, so I arrived at the studio with a confused heart.

Fukuen-san and I sat next to each other across the aisle. We were next to each other, but there was definitely a gap between us, which was the most comfortable distance and allowed me to concentrate on the post-recording.

Fukuen: I was moved by the original work, but at the same time, I felt pressured thinking, “I’ll be performing this someday.” I also didn’t want it to end, so I was hoping it would be as long as possible. On the day, it was somehow very quiet. In my heart and in my mind. In the studio too. I wonder if this is what it’s like to go to battle.

It’s not that I wasn’t nervous, but when I met Ayane, the air around her was completely different from usual, and I realized I was really looking forward to going head-on with this person.

–What did you feel while recording, especially when you were interacting with each other?

Sakura: I was crying the whole time. During the recording, I could barely see the words on the script and I barely remember anything. Only Toga-chan’s face in the storyboard is burned into my mind. It wasn’t so much acting as it was feeling like I was alive. I feel like I was mercilessly called out for retakes, but I don’t remember much about it.

I won’t know which take was chosen until it airs. During the break, I felt relieved when my seniors praised me, saying “That’s amazing,” and “That was amazing,” but then I looked at the script again, heartbroken, and cried…it was a continuous cycle.

For some reason, Fukuen-san looked refreshed and laughed, saying, “Ayane-chan, why are you crying so much,” which made me feel even more tired, so even after the dubbing was over, I walked around the city and cried alone for a while.

Fukuen: To be honest, my memories are scattered. I remember thinking “my throat is about to give out” halfway through. My throat was sore for 2-3 days after the recording. The sound director and other staff members gave me instructions on the parts that were too subjective, and they recorded it very carefully.

I really had the opportunity to perform it many times, and I think that the acting with Ayane could only come out in that moment, so there may be some rough parts, but I have no regrets.

──Please give a message to the fans and viewers who are waiting for the broadcast.

Sakura: The relationship between the two, which started with Deku, eventually becomes a story about the pride of two little girls. I struggled until the very end to figure out how to express Ochako’s humanity, not just as a hero, but as someone who wants to capture all of her feelings.

Be sure to witness the conclusion that these two little boys, influenced by Deku, come to.

Fukuen: Finally, this day has come. I haven’t seen the finished product yet, so I’m looking forward to watching it with everyone on air. I’ve been voicing Toga Himiko for about 10 years. Because she is difficult to grasp and has many layers, there is always a bit of distance between Toga-chan and me.

But in this episode, there was a moment when they completely overlapped. I hope that the feelings of the clumsy Toga-chan and the kind Ochako-chan reach everyone. Don’t miss the climax of season 7.

The seventh season will be broadcast from May 4th,

The comic series has sold over 85 million copies worldwide! The TV anime “My Hero Academia” is based on the hugely popular comic by Kohei Horikoshi, which is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (published by Shueisha).

The story takes place in a world where about 80% of the population has some kind of supernatural ability, a “quirk.” The story follows the growth, battles, and friendships of high school student Izuku Midoriya “Deku,” who attends U.A. High School, and his classmates as they aim to become heroes, a profession that protects people and society from accidents, disasters, and criminals and enemies who abuse their “quirks”!

In this world, it is normal for people to have supernatural powers known as “quirks.” When a “quirkless” boy named Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed “Deku,” meets his idol, the No. 1 hero, All Might, he is discovered to have the qualities of a hero and inherits his “quirk” One For All (OFA). Deku enrolls in the prestigious U.A. High School, a school that produces many heroes, and aims to become a “hero” who can save society and people with his “quirk,” growing up with his classmates in Class 1-A of the Hero Course.

The spring of Deku and his friends’ second year at U.A. The heroes carry out a sweep operation against the villains, including Shigaraki, and a fierce battle that can truly be called an “all-out war” unfolds. Both sides suffer great damage and the all-out war comes to an end, but trust in heroes is shaken and society is in ruins.

Deku leaves U.A. to fight alone, driven by his sense of duty as the successor to OFA, which All For One (AFO) is after, and his desire to avoid putting those around him in danger. As he grows impatient and exhausted, his classmates in Class 1-A reach out to him. The U.A. students and heroes resolve to face the challenge together, not alone. Tomura Shigaraki, AFO and other villains are plotting their next move to eliminate the heroes. The time for the “final battle” is fast approaching. And then, a hero arrives from America…

Will Deku and his friends be able to bring back the days when everyone could smile?
