An alien from the planet Serpo. A race consisting only of males, they have increased their numbers through their own cloning technology, but biological evolution has not occurred and emotions have disappeared. In order to restore reproductive function, they plan to capture and study human women. They possess their own scientific technology and have connections with other aliens.
The Serpo aliens can use telekinesis to control the brainwaves of captured peaches, and can attack and defend with a technique called “Six Roots.” They can also capture opponents without touching them with a technique called “Serpo Surveying.”
In addition, when the three Serpo aliens combine their telekinesis to create the “Amazing Zone,” they can pin down their opponents with even greater force, so much so that it becomes difficult for them to even stand up. By the way, when in combat mode, they transform into a strange figure with striped patterns.
However, the Serpo people do not have very high combat abilities as aliens. Their weapons are their advanced science and technology and the intellect that produces it. They possess a variety of devices and machines, such as a device that creates a void that only those with special abilities, such as Momo and Okarun, can enter, a communication cable that combines UMAs with each other, and a combat simulator.
They hire other aliens with high intelligence and combat power, and modify UMAs to use them in battle to supplement their lacking combat power. They also seem to have contact with other types of aliens.
To Momo and Okarun, they are dangerous beings that target their genitals, but in a way their enthusiastic research attitude towards using technology to regain the reproductive functions that they lack can be seen as very human.
Because they have used cloning technology to increase their numbers, the Serpo people have lost all sense of emotion, such as joy, anger, sadness, happiness, and conflict. As a result, they are always expressionless and monotonous. Furthermore, every single one of them has the exact same facial expression, and this unnaturalness is what makes them so creepy. Having increased their species through cloning, they are all identical not only in appearance but also in their inner selves, including their thoughts.
Although the Serpo aliens all have the same appearance, it seems that each one has a name. Serpo 6-ro is the only Serpo who survived an attack by the space invaders, the “Kuru.”
Rokuro works with Momo and the others to defeat the “Ones from the Abyss” and safely recovers his friends, but as he fights alongside Momo and the others, he begins to develop an ego, and is expelled from his group as a “defective product.”
Unlike other Serpo aliens, Rokuro has emotion in his eyes and a change in his facial expression. This is undoubtedly due to his relationship with Momo. It seems to me that the emotions that Serpo aliens have lost can be regained by increasing their interactions with others, rather than by depriving humans of their reproductive functions and studying them.
However, it seems that it will be difficult for the people of Serpo, who did not accept Rokuro, who had his own unique ideas, and expelled him, to realize this.
The origin of the Serpo aliens is thought to be “Project Serpo,” a top-secret project that is said to have been carried out in secret by the US government in the 1960s.
The project started in 1947 when a UFO crashed in the United States and one surviving alien was the catalyst. It is said that the United States sent a total of 12 exchange students to the planet Serpo. Incidentally, the technique they use, “Rokkon,” seems to be a Buddhist term, but it is unclear whether it is related to “Project Serpo.”
One day, the Serpo people are suddenly attacked by invaders believed to be from outer space, and all of their knowledge and technical data is stolen. Serpo Rokuro, the only survivor, contacts Momo and the others and helps them defeat the invaders.
At first, Momo and the others are ambushed while acting separately and lose, but with Rokuro’s help, they train and decide to fight off the incoming invaders.
そして迎えた決戦の日。アイラやジジたちが応戦している間に、モモと６郎は侵略者たちの入り口となっているゲートを閉じるため転送装置の元へ向かいます。当然敵はモモたちを襲撃しますが、６郎が盾となりモモを守ります。しかし激しい攻撃は防ぎきれず６郎の身体はどんどん傷だらけに。
そこへ仲間・バモラが助太刀に入りますが、敵に腹部を貫かれ瀕死状態となってしまいます。モモが必死に止血するバモラに、６郎はモモに使おうと温存していた救命剤を投与し、バモラは一命をとりとめます。
ところがその直後、６郎は力尽きてしまいます。気を失う直前、敵に奪われた自分たちのデータをすべて消去するようモモに言い残した６郎。モモは、自分とバモラを助けてくれた６郎に「セルポは嫌いだけど６郎は嫌いじゃない」とその頼みを引き受け、決意が宿った瞳で敵と対峙するのでした。
セルポ星人を演じるのは中井和哉さん。1967年11月25日生まれ、兵庫県出身。『ONE PIECE』のゾロ役をはじめ、『銀魂』の土方十四郎役など様々なキャラクターを演じています。
無表情かつ無感情なところがなんとも不気味なセルポ星人。原作第1話の初登場シーンを読んだときにゾッとした感覚を今でも覚えています。アニメではどのような演出で登場するのかとても楽しみです。
怪奇な存在として描かれるセルポ星人ですが、自分たちに欠けているものを他種族をヒントに研究して克服しようとするところは、動物を使って様々な研究を行う私たち人間と同じ思考であり、ある意味人間と似ている種族なのかも。そんな視点でセルポ星人を見てみるのも面白いかもしれません。
