Seven years ago, Ryuu’s familia was destroyed in an incident caused by the Rudra Familia, a group known as the Evilus, a group that repeatedly commits crimes. After taking revenge on the Evilus, she retired from being an adventurer.
Later, with the help of Sylph Flova, who becomes his colleague and best friend, Ryu begins working at the bar “Lady of the Fertility” in Orario.
When Bell began working as an adventurer, Syl took notice and invited him to the shop, which led to Ryu and Bell becoming acquainted with each other.
Ryuu, who understands that Syl has feelings for Bell, supports Syl and also cares for him, giving advice to Bell, who is somewhat unreliable as an adventurer.
He also cooperates with Bell and his friends in their dungeon explorations, and even though he is retired, he plays an active role in the “War Game” between the Hestia Familia and the Apollo Familia. Later, he begins to teach Bell combat in earnest.
Ryuu becomes an indispensable member of Bell and the Hestia Familia. As they go on adventures and battles together, she also comes to respect Bell, learning about his personality and growth.
Although Ryu doesn’t like to get too close to others, over time the two of them grow closer as he tells Bell about his life story and treats him a little more gently than he does with other adventurers.
The distance between Bell and Ryu becomes even closer as they return from the depths of the dungeon, depicted in “DanMachi IV: Calamity Chapter.”
During his adventure, Ryu discovered Jura Halmar, the person he wanted to take revenge on, and pursued him as he fled to the lower levels of the dungeon.
Jura frames Ryu as a murderer, restricting his actions and allowing him to escape. Bell, who has heard rumors of the murderer, also heads down to the lower levels and contacts Ryu. Understanding the situation, he chooses to fight Jura alongside Ryu.
Jura, who is cornered, summons once again Juggernaut, the monster known as the Calamity that destroyed the Astrea Familia. Bell and Ryu, whose trauma has returned, challenge Juggernaut together, but are no match for his overwhelming power.
Even Jura, who tried to control Juggernaut, was killed instantly, and at the end of the battle, Ryu and Bell ended up getting lost in the depths.
As Ryuu conducts the harsh exploration of the depths, he confides in Bell the conflict he has felt since his desire for revenge has taken so many lives.
Having lost the sense of justice that she had always relied on, Ryuu seeks a place to die. She sacrifices herself to help Belle return to the surface, but Bell stays by her side until the end, and together they head for the surface. Bell encourages her, saying, “Ryuu, you still have justice in your heart. You should keep living for the sake of your friends.”
Ryu, impressed by his kindness and strength, is freed from his bonds and encounters his nemesis Juggernaut again in the depths. The two of them manage to return safely to the surface.
深層探索中に、ベルに受け入れられ生きることを肯定してもらったリューは、自分のために必死に戦ってくれた彼に対する心の変化を抱き始めます。
探索中にはベルの目が見られなくなってしまったり、顔を赤らめることも。呼び方も「クラネルさん」から、自然と「ベル」に変化していってしまい。
地上に戻った際にも、療養から目覚めると一目散にベルの病室に向かい、彼の安否を確認するなど、大切な繋がりになったベルを失いたくない様子です。
傷が癒えオラリオの街を散策するふたり。自身の思い出の場所にベルを案内したリューは自分を開放してくれた彼に感謝を述べ「あなたは尊敬に値するヒューマンだ」と伝えるのでした。
『豊穣の女神篇』では、オラリオの祝祭・女神祭のエピソードが描かれます。本作は、成長したベルに、酒場『豊穣の女主人』の店員・シルからデートの誘いが届くことによって物語が大きく動きます。
冒険や戦いの師として、ベルを導き成長を見守ってきたリュー。そして、復讐に取り憑かれていた自分を受け入れて、共に生きる選択をしてくれたベルへの気持ちを自覚した彼女は、今後どのようにベルと向き合っていくのでしょうか。
ベルを意識するあまり、ぎこちない態度を取ることが多いので、彼女が完全に甘えられるようになるのは時間がかかりそうですが、第5期でどのようなアプローチをするのか注目です！
