SUPER FORMULA, Japan’s top formula race, is cooperating with animation production and is a collaborative partner, and professional drivers serve as guest voice actors, attracting attention from the racing industry.
This time, to commemorate the broadcast starting in April 2024, we conducted an interview with Fuka Izumi, who plays the main character, Rindo Rindo, and Shiori Izawa, who plays the role of Eien Komachi!
The two, who are co-starring together for the first time, passionately talked about their first impressions, the highlights of this work, and the charm of the characters.
――Was this the first time for the two of you to work together?
Fuka Izumi (hereinafter referred to as Izumi): That’s right.
Shiori Izawa (hereinafter referred to as Izawa): We met for the first time when we held a cast talk event at “AnimeJapan 2023.”
–What were your first impressions of each other?
Izawa: I thought she was a nice girl and easy to talk to.
Izumi: I’m happy (teru).
Izawa: The event lasted about 30 minutes, but the only information that could be released was the PV. I was thinking about how to connect through the talk, but the conversation ended in the blink of an eye (lol). I remember thinking that he was easy to talk to.
Izumi: Mr. Izawa is a senior I admire, so I was quite nervous at first. During the talk, he skillfully told the story in a way that inspired me, and I wanted to become a senior like him.
–The two of you are also the personalities of “HIGHSPEED Étoile RADIO”, right? Has your impression changed in any way after doing the radio broadcasts and dubbing?
Izawa: I think he has a hard-working side. Although she must be busy performing on stage, she leads a polite private life. When I was the same age, I lived a more casual life (lol).
–(lol). What do you think, Mr. Izumi?
Izumi: When radio started, I had more opportunities to talk one-on-one, and I felt that he was more frank than I had imagined.
Izawa: Right! People say it looks scary, but it’s not that scary.
All: (laughs).
Izumi: They treat the cast and staff in the same way, so I don’t feel cramped. The radio also created an atmosphere where people could talk naturally. He is truly an ideal senior.
Izawa: I’m happy (Teru).
— Going back a bit in chronological order, how did you feel when you heard that you had been cast for the role?
Izumi: I was selected through an audition, but I actually knew about the work before that.
–Really!?
和泉：キャラクター原案の藤真拓哉先生とは、他の作品でお仕事させていただいてSNSで繋がっていたんです。そこでレースを題材にした作品をつくることを知って、最初は他人事のように思っていたんですが、まさか主人公で出演させていただくことになるなんて。予想していなかっただけに不思議なご縁を感じますし、この作品には特別な思い入れがあります。
――ラジオではこの作品が初主演とおっしゃっていました。役が決まったときは、不安と緊張のどちらが勝っていたのでしょうか？
和泉：オーディションに受かったのは初めてだったので嬉しい気持ちが大きかったです。ですが、他のキャストさんを教えていただいたときに「私が主演で大丈夫なんだろうか」というプレッシャーを感じてしまって。不安になることもありましたが、「私ができることを一生懸命にやるしかない」と思って演じるよう心がけました。
――井澤さんもオーディションで決定したのですか？
井澤：「小町永遠というキャラクターでお願いします！」と直接お話をいただいたんですが、原作もキャラクタービジュアルも全くない状態だったので最初は不安でした。その後に、水樹奈々さんや堀江由衣さん、田村ゆかりさんらと共演できると聞いて、「こんなチャンスはなかなかないぞ！」と心が震えましたし、アフレコをすごく楽しみにしていました。
――本作の脚本を読んだり、映像をご覧になったりした印象はいかがでしたか？
和泉：実はアフレコ前に全ての脚本を読んでいたんです。
井澤：えぇ！ そうだったの!?
和泉：初めての主演がオリジナルアニメということで、何の情報もないままアフレコに挑むのが不安でして。そこで全話読んだんですが、私がイメージしているレース作品と全然違うなという印象でした。レースから離れたキャラクターたちの日常を描いているシーンがかなりあって、各キャラの人間らしさを感じることできるんです。
普通、レース作品を見るときは「ルールなど車に詳しくならなきゃいけない」という気負いがあると思うんですが、本作にはそれがなくて、どんな方でも楽しむことができる作品だと思いました。
――レースだけでなく、ヒューマンドラマが詰まっているのですね。井澤さんはいかがですか？
井澤：レースは勝負事なので勝ちたい気持ちはみんなあるんですが、「あいつに負けたくない！」っていうよりも「楽しいから勝ちたいんだ！」というポジティブな気持ちなのが印象的でした。
他の作品でライバルキャラクターが登場すると、敵だと感じて「邪魔だな」なんて思ってしまうんですが、本作ではどのキャラクターも好きになれるんですよ。
和泉：確かに誰もいがみ合っていないし、本当に仲良しなんだなって感じます。レース中はもちろん本気で「追い越してやる」って思っているんですが、終わった後はおやつを一緒に食べていたりしていて。
井澤：楽しそうな雰囲気が伝わってきて心が温まるよね。
