The second season of the TV anime “Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story – Kyoto Disturbance” is scheduled to begin airing on October 3, 2024.
Today, Sunday, September 22nd, an advance screening and talk event was held, with Saito Soma, who plays Himura Kenshin, and Hino Satoshi, who plays Saito Hajime, in attendance!
The event took place in Nihonbashi, the starting point of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, and featured video comments from Kitani Tatsuya and Natori, the duo responsible for the opening theme to the first season of the series, “Iranai Mono.”
When asked how he came to collaborate on this song, Kitani revealed how he came to collaborate with Natori, saying, “This time I wanted to create a ‘pathetic song’. I wanted to write a song that cuts into people’s weak spots, and when I wondered who I knew who could do that, I decided to call Natori-kun!”
Regarding Kitani, Natori expressed her joy, saying, “I’m a big fan of Kitani, so I was humbled, but I really learned a lot.”
Regarding this song, Kitani said, “This is a collaboration between an unexpected pairing, but we’ve created a great song. I hope you’ll enjoy it until the end, but by the way…read the lyrics! We put a lot of effort into writing them!”, expressing his attachment to the lyrics.
Natori appealed to the audience at the venue, saying, “I think I’ve created a song that captures the grittiness and beauty of Rurouni Kenshin, so please listen to it lots!”
Next, Saito Soma, who plays Himura Kenshin, and Hino Satoshi, who plays Saito Hajime, took the stage, and the venue was filled with thunderous applause!
For the opening song sung by Kitani Tatsuya and Natori,
Saito: “Well, first of all I was very happy that these wonderful two were in charge of the opening, and when I heard about it, it seems they had a lot to say. It seems they worked on it with great passion. Also, doesn’t the visuals look really cool!?” he said excitedly to the audience.
Hino praised the music written specifically for the series, saying, “It’s a melody that really draws you into the world of the second season.”
Next, they spoke about the highlights of the film to the audience, who were the first in the world to see the film.
Saito: “In the second season, which depicts the Kyoto Uprising, the direction has been changed to include a lot more humorous faces. And with Misao there, Kenshin doesn’t become too heavy, and I think it’s really impressive that he’s able to say ‘Oro’.” He spoke about new highlights of the second season.
Next, Hino spoke about the atmosphere during recording, commenting, “We around him also tried not to make any noise at all (during recording). We would feel bad if we had to reshoot,” revealing how he placed importance on the one-time serious battle even during recording.

第二期の制作にあたっては、より熾烈な戦いを描くべく、監督・駒田由貴(『無限の住人-IMMORTAL-/助監督』)を起用。シリーズ構成は引き続き倉田英之(『メイドインアビス』)が務める。
