What is the ending of the movie “Dededede Chapter 2” drawn by Ini Asano? 3 points that have changed from the original workThe second chapter of the theatrical anime “Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction” (hereinafter referred to as “Dededede”), which is based on Inio Asano’s manga of the same name, has been released. Perhaps expectations were high after the first chapter received rave reviews through word of mouth, but the second chapter’s box office revenue on the first three days of its release was 139% of that of the first chapter.

It was revealed during the promotional stage that the sequel would have a different ending from the original. The ending is said to be based on the name that the original author Asano-sensei drew for the movie, which is rare these days when we are often required to conform to the original, but I would like to explain what the actual differences are, including spoilers. I think.

*There are spoilers that touch on the ending. please note.

The movie “Dededede: The Last Chapter” was generally developed and depicted in the same way as the original, but there were some parts where the structure was changed significantly. That is, the past parts of Ontan and Kademi were depicted. In the original work, some episodes from his elementary school days that are depicted from the latter half of the 7th volume are brought to the previous chapter, and it is hinted that Ontan came from another parallel world, and it seems that he has lost his memories as well. It will be drawn.

In elementary school, Ontan had a quiet personality,'' while Kademi had a bullish personality.” The two were bullied for being outcasts in the classroom, but they became friends after accidentally helping an invader during a summer class. The story depicts how the invaders try to make the world a better place by making full use of their secret tools, but as a result of their justice going out of control, tragedy befalls them.

The appearance of this episode in the previous chapter suggests that there is another parallel world in this work, giving a sense of scale to the story. The mystery of this parallel world is used as a hook to create anticipation for later chapters.

Following the previous chapter, which was littered with many mysteries and foreshadowings, the story unfolds in the second chapter, collecting them all at once. Perhaps because there was a considerable amount of information, later chapters feature fewer characters than the original. Compared to the original story, which had the feel of a group drama, the content focuses more on the relationships between the three main characters: Ontan, Kadode, and Ohba.

For example, American Japanese otakus don’t appear. Also, the “professional weak” woman whom Kohiruimaki helps no longer appears (though she is actually secretly depicted in one scene). There is no depiction of the Big Comic Spirits editorial department, so Kengo Hanazawa does not appear either. The episodes are also quite limited in terms of the supporting characters that appear.

The characters surrounding Ontan, Kadode, and Ohba appear properly, but the episodes of major characters such as Futaba and Makoto are a bit subdued compared to the original. There may be an issue with the length of a single movie, but if the medium is a movie that is shown all at once, I think some people have decided that it is easier to watch if it is clear whose story the story is about.

The biggest changes are in the climax and ending. At the end of the story, Ohba heads alone to the mothership, prepared to die, in order to stop it from exploding. In the original story, the mother ship explodes without being able to board the ship, but in the movie, the characters succeed in infiltrating the mother ship and enter the password entrusted to them by a certain invader.

As a result, we succeeded in minimizing the spread of the mysterious light that kills living things just by touching it. Just like in the original story, Tokyo suffers from severe damage, but Ontan and Kadode, who were unknown if they were alive or dead, are confirmed to be safe, and the story depicts Ohba and Ontan’s emotional reunion.

Because the movie ends like this, the dystopian world called “8.32” depicted in the original work is not depicted. Therefore, Nobuo Koyama, Kadode’s father, who plays a central role in the “8.32” episode, no longer appears.

Nobuo went missing on August 31, when the mothership appeared over Tokyo and caused extensive damage, but in reality, like Ohba, she survived by merging with the invaders. However, when the fused invaders died, Nobuo’s sense of self began to return, and he regained consciousness, the world had completely changed. From there, Nobuo shifts to another parallel world in order to meet his daughter, and the story depicts him becoming an adult in that world.

What is causing this difference in outcome? In the original work, it seems like they are resetting a collapsed world and starting over, but in the movie, it seems like Ontan and Kadomi are going to live on despite the half-destroyed world.

Some of her loved ones, including her family in Tokyo, have been lost, so despite the helplessness, the absolute friendship between Ontan and Kademi is unchanging, and with that bond, they can survive even in this damaged world. It was a powerful ending.

I think it’s up to each person which ending they prefer. However, in both endings, Ontan and Kadode’s friendship is depicted as “absolute.” In that sense, I don’t think the movie version is betraying those who love the original work, but rather makes you feel deeply moved, thinking, “This kind of future could have been possible.”
