New stills from the animated film “The Rose of Versailles” have been released to celebrate Fersen’s birthday (September 4th)!革命期のフランスで懸命に生きる人々の、愛と人生を鮮やかに描いた池田理代子先生の代表作『ベルサイユのばら』。2025年新春に同作の劇場アニメが公開されます。

September 4th is the birthday of the film’s character, Hans Axel von Fersen. To commemorate this, new stills of Fersen have been released.

Fersen is a handsome, thoughtful and intelligent Swedish count who meets Marie Antoinette, the daughter of Austrian Empress Maria Theresa, at a masked ball at the Paris Opera House. At the age of 14, she came to France to become the wife of King Louis XVI. Fersen is tossed about by this forbidden love, but he remains true to his love for her and chooses his own life.

The Takarazuka Revue is currently performing The Rose of Versailles – Fersen Edition – to rave reviews, and this character was chosen as the lead role in the memorable year marking the 50th anniversary of the premiere of The Rose of Versailles.

The stills released this time include important scenes that would influence the lives of Oscar and Marie Antoinette, such as the scene where he meets Oscar François de Jarjayes, who would later become a close friend and who, at a young age, served as Marie Antoinette’s bodyguard as the commander of the French Guard, and the scene where he gazes with beautiful eyes at Marie Antoinette, the person to whom he would dedicate his love and destiny.

The voice actor for Fersen in this work is Kazuki Kato, who is not only active as an actor and voice actor in roles such as Shiro Kazami in “Kamen Rider THE NEXT” and Malleus Draconia in “Disney Twisted Wonderland”, but also in music and musicals, expanding his scope of activities both in Japan and overseas, and captivating fans with his various activities. Regarding his appearance, Kato said, “It’s been 50 years since the creation of The Rose of Versailles…It’s an honor beyond my ability to take on the role of Fersen in The Rose of Versailles, which has continued to be loved without losing its luster during that time. As someone who has experience throwing myself into the French Revolution in a musical, I was deeply moved when this story was decided.” It seems as if he was led to this work by fate, just like the characters Fersen and Antoinette he plays.

Furthermore, regarding the theatrical animation, he commented , “In addition to the famous scenes from the original work, new singing performances have been added, and I think that this work will bring about a new revolution in the Reiwa era with modern video technology. Please look forward to it!” As my imagination expands for the completely new Rose of Versailles, my heart is pounding with excitement at the birth of a new Fersen!
