Spring anime “Jellyfish Can’t Swim at Night” Series No. 5: Music Masaru Yokoyama | Reason for recording in various countriesOriginal TV anime “Jellyfish Can’t Swim at Night”. Director: Ryohei Takeshita x Screenplay: Yuuki Yaku x Animation Production: A youth group drama presented by Douga Studio.

Episode 5 depicts Mahiru’s conflict. Even if you’re not a creator, it was an episode that deeply touched your heart. The music video for the final ending theme “Shibuya Aquarium”, the many impressive scenes including the aquarium, and the musical accompaniment playing in the background…everything was amazing.

In the fifth installment of this series, we asked Masaru Yokoyama, who created the music for “Jellyfish Can’t Swim at Night,” to comment on his work.

Please tell us how you came to be involved in this work and what the director told you when you made the offer.

Yokoyama: First of all, when I received the proposal, I thought it was a wonderful work. “I would love to,” I replied immediately.

This work features girls engaged in creative activities. Please tell us your impressions of the story.

Yokoyama: All of the people working on this work, including myself, are creators, and I think creators have something in common at their roots, and I think it’s fun to create something with friends. Ta. It’s good to have some suffering at the same time.

What was your impression of director Ryohei Takeshita during the meeting, and what kind of orders did he give you? Also, what do you think he is particular about musically?

Yokoyama: The director’s opinion was that he wanted the music to have a retro feel. Maybe it’s the texture of the film… Come to think of it, the director was making the teaser movie while rotating the camera, and the common perception that it’s retro may apply to that texture as well. I think music with this texture has a place where you can feel the emotion.
