This time, character design by Asako Nishida has unveiled the concept art for the five characters: Etsuko, Lee, Hime, Dakko, and Imochi!
Character designer Asako Nishida, who has teamed up with Director Sakuragi again since his film debut, Shinseiki Impact, introduced her attention to detail in drawing the five characters.
Nishida Asako is known for creating many charming characters in the wildly popular school idol story “Love Live!”, as well as “Denpa Otoko to Seishun Onna”, “Haruchika” and “Land of the Lustrous”.
This was made possible by a love call from Director Sakuragi, who said , “I had been talking about asking Asako Nishida to do the character design .” She is a character designer known for creating refreshing and delicate characters.
Regarding the character design for this production, “Ganbatte Ikimasshoi,” Nishida said, “The director gave me specific images of actresses for each character, so I imagined them from there,” and “When filling in the shadows of the characters, I make sure that no two characters have the same silhouette.” He spoke of his own particular attention to detail.
“This time, the animation is entirely in CG, so I wanted to add a pattern to Lee’s hairpin and increase the amount of detail in her irises, but the director gave me the order to ‘just make her normal. Just make her a normal girl .'” Because of this order, he said that the thing he kept in mind the most was to “avoid using anime-like designs as much as possible . “
Nishida continued , “For example, if the uniforms are too elaborate, they lose their sense of reality, but I also wanted them to have some individuality… so I had to find that fine line,” and shared some behind-the-scenes stories from his conversation with the director.
The character design drawings, which are full of such attention to detail, show Etsuko and the others dressed in the Mitsuhigashi High School uniforms.
Each character’s skirt length and style is different, with Etsuko wearing knee-length socks, Lee wearing short socks, and Dacco wearing knee-high socks, giving fans a glimpse of their unique high school girl personalities, making for an irresistible finish.
A girl who is not anime-like, but is normal, and yet has a unique character as a work of art. Nishida teamed up with the director again to create this work, which cannot be discussed without mentioning the refreshing and delicate characters that are characteristic of Nishida.
