This time, the official report of the “Final Act Screening Commemorative Stage Greeting” held on Saturday, August 3rd has arrived!
Voice actors Amasaki Kouhei, Furukawa Makoto, Ueda Reina, Tomita Miyu, and Yasumoto Hiroki, along with director Ohashi Yoshimitsu and producer Taniguchi Hirojiro, took the stage to talk about their thoughts on the conclusion.
Set in the former Hokkaido Block of the United States of Japan five years after “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection,” the latest installment in the series, “Code Geass: Rose of the Recapture,” depicts the mercenary siblings Rose and Ash as they stand up against the Neo Britannian Empire, reaching a spectacular conclusion!
The final act of this four-act film began screening in theaters on Friday, August 2nd. A stage greeting to commemorate the screening was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 on Saturday, August 3rd, the day after the release, with Amasaki Kouhei, who plays Rose, Furukawa Makoto, who plays Ash, Ueda Reina, who plays Sumeragi Sakuya, Tomita Miyu, who plays Ryuko Haruka, Yasumoto Hiroki, who plays Noland von Luneberg, Director Ohashi Yoshimitsu, and Producer Taniguchi Hirojiro on stage. We bring you a look at the stage greeting, where they shared their passionate feelings with the fans.
After the screening, Amasaki, Furukawa, Ueda, Tomita, Yasumoto, Director Ohashi, and Producer Taniguchi appeared on stage to a thunderous applause and began their greetings. The film, which has been screened monthly since May, has finally reached its finale, and Director Ohashi said with emotion, “I think this is the film I’ve been involved with the longest in my career. There were so many things that happened. I’m relieved that it’s finally finished.” Amasaki, who said he feels a great sense of loneliness now that it’s over, commented, “I have mixed emotions, with the feeling that it went by so quickly and the satisfaction that everyone was able to watch the story until the end. I feel the same way as everyone else!” Furukawa expressed his joy as each curtain passed, saying, “More and more people came to see the film, and I’m reminded once again that it was a really exciting film,” and Ueda reflected on the ending, saying, “It was difficult to switch my emotions during the dubbing.”
Tomita, who watched the final scene last night, said, “After watching it, I was so emotional I couldn’t move for a while. But I think everyone felt it was a good movie in many ways, so I hope I can share that feeling with everyone.” Yasumoto responded, “It’s my fault (laughs) that I was so emotional,” and the audience applauded in agreement. Producer Taniguchi said, “The production team’s wish is to deliver what we want to deliver, and leave it up to you to decide how you feel about it,” and looked around the audience, who were still engrossed in the story just after the screening, and said with a wry smile, “It’s not as much of an atmosphere for messing around as I thought it would be.”
This was Yasumoto and Tomita’s first appearance on stage for the film. Noland’s intentions and true identity under the mask were shrouded in mystery, and Yasumoto said that director Ohashi had explained his true identity to him from the very beginning. He revealed how he went through a process of trial and error to create the character, saying, “If you know exactly what he is like, his presence as a source of fear will fade, or you will have to think about how to deal with him, so I wanted to make him mysterious.” There was also a scene where producer Taniguchi revealed that there was actually a hint to the secret in Noland’s goods. Amakasaki and Furukawa were not informed of much about Noland until the end of the film, and they speculated about his true identity.
Next, Ms. Tomita recalled that Haruka is actually the daughter of Kuroto, the leader of the Seven Brilliant Stars, and that Takaya Kuroda, who plays Kuroto, had a gentle aura about him, saying with a smile, “It was really reassuring to have him sitting next to me every time.” Ms. Tomita also mentioned an episode from her school days when she had a strong inferiority complex about her father and wanted to be recognized by him, and said that she was reminded of the feelings she had at the time and was able to hit the recording hard.
Ueda, who played both Sakuya and her double Sakura, spoke about the changes and growth of the two characters throughout the story, saying, “Sakuya is so straightforward that she could easily snap, while Sakura is curved and soft, so she appears weak, but in fact she has a strong core and will not break at all.” He continued, “It was also impressive to see Sakura facing Catherine with an even stronger expression on her face in the final act.”
サクヤとサクラについては、最終章のエンディングをふまえて「サクヤにとってのサクラが、今まで隣に立っていたアッシュとはまた別のポジションで支えてくれるようになったんだな」と古川さん。そして天﨑さんはノーランド戦の直前にアッシュとロゼが話すシーンがすごくうれしかったそうで、「初めて全部本心で話せたあのシーンが本当によかったなって。ロゼをやってきた身として、やれてよかったと思うシーンでした」と万感の思いを込めて語った。ロゼ＝サクヤとして、同じ人物を演じている上田さんは「どっちがしゃべってるか、わからなかった。天才！」と大絶賛。大橋監督も「場合によってはサクヤと切り替えようかというのが事前にあったんですよ。でも一発録りで、これはいけるとなりました」とその演技を褒めたたえ、「サクヤを常に感じながらロゼとしてお芝居ができていたからこそ、シンクロできた感じがしてうれしかったですね」と天﨑さんも満足げに語った。
フォトセッションの後は、1人ずつファンへメッセージを届けていく。谷口プロデューサーは「因果応報のお話だなと。これは『反逆のルルーシュ』からずっと繋がっているテーマでもあるんですが。因果応報って、やったことが報われるという言葉でもあると私は思っているので、みなさんが応援してくださる結果、その応援を受けて我々が次の『奪還のロゼ』作れるのではないかなと思うので」と気になる発言をし、大橋監督も「実はラストに若干（今後の）余地みたいなものは残してありまして、続くといいなとちょっと思っています」と付け加えた。安元さんは「今まで何も言えなかったことが少ししゃべれたから、“これでようやく眠れる”と思いました」とノーランドのセリフになぞらえて口にした。富田さんは「こうやってハルカ役の富田美憂です、と名のってみなさんの前でキャラクターについてお話する機会がずっと欲しいなと思っていて」と舞台挨拶に登壇できたことを喜び、「お父さんのこととか、ハルカの成長した姿を観ていただけたのでとてもうれしかったです！」と晴れやかな顔を見せた。
上田さんは、「人と人が一緒だからこそ生まれる希望もあるなと、この作品ですごく教えてもらいました。できればその人の思いとか繋がりが争いや苦しみじゃなく平和に繋がる、みんなが幸せで平等でいられる世界がいいなと私は思いました。みなさんもそれぞれ感じるものがあると思いますので、その思いを大切に何度も観返してもらえたら」と優しく客席へ語りかけた。古川さんは、谷口プロデューサーの“因果応報”というワードについて「僕はサクヤ、アッシュ、ロゼに対しては返ってくるものが少なすぎると感じたんですね」と物申す。さらに『反逆のルルーシュR2』でのギアスと“願い”が似ているというセリフをあげ、「みなさまの（続編が観たいという）願いがあれば、それが谷口さんや監督に強めのギアスとしてかかってくるんじゃないかな」と続けると、万雷の拍手が巻き起こり、谷口プロデューサーも「いつか、“そのギアス確かに受け取った”って言うかもしれないですね」と応じた。最後は、天﨑さんが「少しでもこの作品を通して得られたものを先へ、ここからはみなさんが『奪還のロゼ』の目撃者として伝えていっていただければ。その際に１つだけお願いしたいことがあるとすれば、（ロゼの声を出す）ボイスチェンジャーの声は変えないでください！よろしくお願いします！」と必死に頼み込み、続編への期待が大きく膨らむ舞台挨拶は幕を下ろした。
