Jun Shirasaki and the Jinguji sisters, Rumi and Naori, are childhood friends who have been together since they were little and have been like family ever since they were little. The relationship between the three of them, who have been interacting without having any specific relationship, changes one day into a twisted love triangle with one word uttered by Rumi.
With the broadcast just around the corner, we interviewed Sakata Shogo, who plays Shirasaki Jun, Ushiromoto Moeha, who plays Jinguji Rumi, and Uchida Maaya, who plays Jinguji Naori, and asked them about the best parts of the series and their characters.
–Please tell us your impressions after reading the original work and the script.
Shogo Sakata (voice of Jun Shirasaki) (hereafter, Sakata): When I saw the title and cover, I knew it was about a love triangle, but when I started reading it, it was completely different from what I had imagined. I had expected the story to unfold in a way that the twins would fall in love with the cool protagonist, and then things would get complicated.
–This film starts with the characters building a relationship from the very beginning.
Sakata: That’s right. The premise is that he has loved her since childhood. In addition to that premise, the characters’ feelings are easy to understand, but are also complicated, so I was able to empathize with Jun from beginning to end as I read the story.
Moeha Ushiromoto (role of Jinguji Rumi): At first, I thought it would be a typical romantic comedy, but when I read the original work, it was heavier and more heartbreaking than I had imagined. No one is at fault, but everyone is troubled.
Everyone: Yeah, yeah.
Ushiromoto: But through the dubbing, I felt a lot of high school student vibes in my interactions with the characters. I think it’s a work that’s packed with youthful elements.
–It may be difficult to categorize this work as a romantic comedy. What do you think, Uchida-san?
Maaya Uchida (Uchida), who plays Naori Jinguji: First of all, the lines written in the audition script were so difficult that I wondered, “What is this girl saying?” (laughs). Naori is an elusive character to begin with, so I thought she would be an interesting character to play.
As I continued to read the story, I found the twins, each with their own unique personality, to be very charming. As the story progressed, with each chapter, I found myself falling in love with both of them, and I really got a sense of Jun-kun’s unresolved feelings.
–What was your first impression of your character?
Sakata: Jun-kun is a serious, good student, and kind boy. That “kindness” can be interpreted as indecisiveness, so it’s difficult to say, but I think his honesty as a life-sized boy and his tendency to think deeply are also attractive.
–Indeed, I think it’s inevitable that you would be indecisive about which one to choose, given your age and your relationship with the twins.
Sakata: That’s right. I think that’s a natural thing for a boy to do.
-What do you think about Rumi?
