“The Quintessential Quintuplets” is a romantic comedy by Negi Haruba that depicts the youth of quintuplets who are on the verge of failing and hate studying, and Uesugi Futaro, who becomes their part-time tutor. The

series was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” and has sold over 20 million copies in total. It has been adapted into a TV anime twice, and was made into a movie in 2022.

In 2023, “The Quintessential Quintuplets∽” was produced as a new TV special anime that visualized the original summer vacation episode that was not depicted in the TV anime series, and it was also screened in advance in theaters. As a further new anime, “The Quintessential Quintuplets*” has also been decided to be produced, which will visualize the “honeymoon arc” of Fuutarou and the quintuplets under the original idea and full supervision of Haruba.

This work depicts the high school life of the five Nakano sisters (quintuplets) and their classmate and tutor Fuutaro, and the quintuplets’ childhood is often depicted. In particular, “the pancakes their mother made for them when they were children” is one of the important elements of the original story.

This time, “Itsutsugo-chan and Pancakes” is the first official picture book to develop a completely original story using “memories of pancakes and mother” as a hook.

The story is set before the quintuplets start elementary school. They are younger than the children depicted in the original work. In depicting a time not in the original work, Haruba supervised the production to faithfully follow the image of the original work, not only in the story but also in the appearance of the house where the quintuplets lived, their clothes, pajamas, and the clothes they wear at their mother’s house.

The quintuplets live together under the same roof. The book depicts every moment of their childhood, like a memory album of the quintuplets. As a bonus, the Nakano family’s secret pancake recipe is also revealed for the first time, so you’ll want to try it out.
