The “Pierrot Magical Girl Series” produced by Studio Pierrot continues to be supported by many fans both in Japan and overseas even now, 40 years after its release. Starting with the memorable first work, “Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel,” which was Pierrot’s first original TV anime series, a total of five works have been broadcast on TV between 1983 and 1998.
Starting with “Magical Angel Creamy Mami” (1983-1984), which attracted much attention for its groundbreaking new strategy of skillfully crossing over the fictional idol Creamy Mami with the real-life idol Ota Takako, “Persia, the Magical Fairy” aired from 1984 to 1985, which gained popularity among children for the unique “Persian language” spoken by the lead actress Tominaga Mina’s passionate voice, and “Magical Emi, the Magical Star” aired from 1985 to 1986, adding depth to the human drama with depictions of everyday life and scenery that changed with the seasons incorporated throughout the series.
This was followed in 1986 by “Magical Idol Pastel Yumi,” which had a significantly different feel from the previous three works in that the main character does not transform into an adult, and in 1998, “Magical Stage Fancy Lala,” a new series born 15 years after Creamy Mami, was released as an ambitious work that showed one possible form of magical girl in the modern era.
This is the latest TV anime in the “Pierrot Magical Girl Series,” marking 40 years since the final episode of “Magical Angel Creamy Mami” aired, and the first in 26 years since the fifth series, “Magical Stage Fancy Lala.”
Along with this announcement, a promotional video was released announcing the production of the latest film, which includes transformation scenes from previous series. At the end, two people are seen holding hands in the distance, along with an illustration with the words, “We want you to sing it once more.”
An official X (formerly Twitter) account has also been opened, raising expectations for further updates.
