The original work of “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” is a science fiction novel series set in the distant future of space, a masterpiece by Yoshiki Tanaka, a popular author who has produced many hit works. Since the first volume was published in 1982, the long novel, which consists of 10 main volumes and 5 side stories, has sold a total of 15 million copies and continues to be reprinted. An anime series was released in 1988, and it has gained even more fans.
“Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These” is a new animation by Production IG, starting with “Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Encounter” (12 episodes) produced in April 2018. With new voice actors, it depicts a new interpretation of “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” with fleet battles using the latest technology, and in 2019, the second season “Star-Crossed” (episodes 13-24) was screened at a movie theater event.
After that, in April 2020, all 24 episodes with new OP and ED were aired on NHK E-Tele. From March to June 2022, the third season “Clash” (episodes 25-36), and from September to November 2022, the fourth season “Strategy” (episodes 37-48) were screened at movie theaters. All 48 episodes from the first to fourth seasons will be broadcast sequentially on Nippon Television’s anime slot “AnichU” from January 16, 2024.
The third season, “Clash,” and the fourth season, “Scheme,” will be broadcast on television for the first time on July 2nd. Ahead of this, a promotional video for the start of the 25th episode has been released. In addition, in conjunction with the broadcast, it has been decided that each episode of the third season, “Clash,” will be available for unlimited viewing and free streaming on various streaming sites. U-NEXT is scheduled to be the first to offer an advance unlimited viewing service starting July 3rd.
